My guess is that a team would have paid more, which is my opinion, opposite yours. Toews/Kane bring hardware (Stanley Cups, Conn Smythe) and continued to bring hardware after the deals. You pay for what you get. I'd take the $10.5M and lock them up then let them test FA. My guess is they can get more elsewhere.
- HawksHype

Who do you think was going to pay them $1.5 mil more per than the highest cap hit in the league at the time, one summer later than Chicago did, with falling cap projections?

Honestly

I would like to hear a team

Bowman can dig his heels in and get married to AA-Essentially in a contract sense that will be happening if not dealt. Or he can deal a player that should be in demand and not have to take back a penny.
- Al

I don't KNOW this, but my hunch is the FO has decided to play the long game and get Panarin re-upped with the loose change they've recouped and fill in with kids and league minimum vets this year.

However, the net change from a team that had already regressed from Cup form last year (pretty much fact, sorry to those of you who keep arguing the point) is probably going to be more in the negative.

I'm not gonna start pumping TT's tires, but he's better today than anything in the pipeline is today. Shaw is gone. Ladd is gone. Weise and Fleischmann are useful players.

It would be $500K more per player, and I'm not syaing they go to the same team. But any number of teams with $11M cap space. I can send you to a site that shows teams that have space, that would save more time than to list all of the ones. If Hawks have managed to do it with 2 players at this amount, I'm sure a team could spend $1M more to drag one of them away from the Hawks.

I will just say this: the Hawks were at best lukewarm on him coming back. They really were not going to pay him much at all in any event.
- John Jaeckel

I hope he doesn't come back. Honestly, I don't want to bring back ex-hawks like Campbell and Ladd because they used to play for the Hawks. You know what I mean?

I'd like to see some guys that are hungry and want to be here. I didn't think Campbell was all that when he was here. We have to move one from these guys.

Not so fast - Campbell flat out says says Chicago is first choice and he just wants to okay somewhere he knows he will be happy. Money will not determine where he goes.

He'd fit here and in a time of need. I'll believe Campbell leaves a dime on the table when I see it.

But then you just create a hole at 2C. I'm not certain at all that they deal him. Unless a Brad Richards signing is in place.
- onehundredlevel

There's a way to backfill, maybe a couple of them, discussed earlier in the thread.

Since NJ traded there D man, wonder if there is more smoke to the TVR for JM deal.

Swap severson, quennville, and moore plus a pick for seabs and anisimov
Campbell can go to Dallas...

Richards is the reporter in Miami? The article from the Chicago Tribune came out after the tweet you quoted and has direct quotes from Campbell. Does that mean he signs here? I don't know - Hawks have to want him - l but I like that it is his first choice.
- Marlowe

Yeah looks like Richards and Kuc have talked a bit via Twitter, guess we'll have to wait and see.

...Hawks won 3 Cups without a true 2nd line C. Last yr scoring balance was out of whack and 5 on 5 play poor. I'd take a chance.

Apparantly, a Western Divison team was willing to trade a TOP defenseman to the Oilers but they wanted Hall and the early first rounder.
(BUT the Oilers refused to pay that price for Shattenkirk...)

Larsson may not be worth Taylor Hall now, but he certainly has enough upside to make this a even deal, especially if Hall can't carry the Quebec devils on his back for awhile...

I highly doubt the Hawks take on any additional salary prior to free agency on July 1st.
- onehundredlevel

No disagreement here. But if he ships off AA. Then taking on an additional $800K isn't so bad

I'm just not sure who he'd be going after with the opened up salary. That's going to bring us more than AA does.

Sorry, I dont buy it

And the overwhelming major of hockey coverage folk agreed they got top dollar, even for what they could have gotten in free agency

I dont recall hearing from a single credible reporter that they were leaving money on the table that they could have gotten next summer, especially with falling cap projections

A lot of us on this board piss and moan about Danault and a 2nd round pick got traded for Weise and Fleisch.

Taylor Hall got traded for Adam Larsson. What a horsepoop deal for the Oilers.

- Dannyboy

(frank)ing for real.

As we all know I posted Seabrook and a 2017 3rd for Hall. Id say it was 50/50 on this thread yesterday in here abd then posted the same thing in the Oil blog and lost that one 99 to 1 . I bet theyd take that deal today .... lol

@georgerichards Although I said it sounded like Brian Campbell was headed back to the #Blackhawks, now hearing Dallas. Again, we'll see. #nhlStars

Now if the hawks can just find a centre and wing who are also willing....

Well Al, you're right. If Bowman doesn't do anything then there is a problem. One contract has to be moved in order to be in contender mode. Freeing up an additional $4+ mil gives room for a true 1LW and some depth help.

If he sits on his hands then the division just got 2x harder.

He can find a younger guy for about 1/2 price..Not saying as good and use the rest or bank it.

Does Kane and Panarin need a $4.5 million center???

No I was talking in terms of a 1st or 2nd line LW, that's what I wonder. Does he have his eyes on someone?

You honestly believe, that if the time came for a Toews and Kane to hit FA, that a team wouldn't make a trade, not sign someone, buyout, etc for the chance to overpay one of them to be on their team?
