EDM and NJD appear to be edging closer to completion of a trade involving Taylor Hall. Could be imminent. Not official yet.

Some speculation Adam Larsson going the other way.

How? Did they get into a time machine and go into the future?

Think Lucic is on board verbally and will sign tomorrow.

That'd be a big one if it goes down.

Maybe that explains the interest NJD might have in TVR as a right hand shot D to add. Not to "replace" what Larsson brings, but just another RHD.

Done deal with Larsson and maybe more going to the Oilers.

Lucic can sign earlier due to permission from LAK (letter from GM to all 29 other teams)? Never saw what exactly was in the letter, just that it went out to all 29 teams when it was clear LAK wouldn't sign him.

Disagree. In one fell swoop, adds outstanding two way forward and adding very good improving d-man. Defense vastly improved for that team while losing some scoring sure, but that's not what that team really needs.

Even if Edmonton is thinking that its really Adam Larson and Milan Lucic for Hall its still very curious.

That is really funny---- 2010 draft is groundhog day for Chiarelli--

If its straight up trade Shero just robbed him

next the Oilers just a tad slower. Now instead of going 95 miles an hour they will only go 90

Some one asked a page back whether this doesn't make the TVR / Moore rumor make more sense for NJD (tho not necessarily for the Hawks)?

Seems pretty obvious that Lucic is now going to Edmonton after that trade--

Man -- Oilers continue to overpay for defenseman-- but Chiarelli got in front of this one-- for a premium it seems--

On his best day Larsson is a #2 dman

Hall has the tools to be a ppg+, 40 goal player on the left wing. He is already an elite LWer at a forward position that is pretty thin to begin with

Larsson has also always played behind in a stingy defense orientated system in NJ and has struggled over the years.

He will now be going to a dumpster fire team defensively where he will get hung out to dry WAY more often

Sorry. But this is a landslide NJD win

Wow. Terrible trade.

Chiarelli should have at least gotten Shero to toss in a couple picks and/or prospects just to mask the fact that this is a 1-for-1 and is going to look terrible in a few years.

The problem with Q is he signs role players and tells them not to play the role they're comfortable with/known for. IE. "Weiss...now that you're here don't hit anyone, don't crash/park yourself in front of the opponent's net, and for GOD's SAKE don't fight ANYONE!!!"
- Murph76

I agree with this perspective on Q's (mis)management of role players like Weise. The pre-Hawks version of Weise is not the version Q wants, and is a reason why I'm wary of pursuing players like Matt Martin. The Islanders-version of Martin would be awesome, but that's not what Q wants and could be a waste of roster (and cap) space to have a player whose skillset and strengths are not maximized. IMHO, it's not worth it to waste assets (cap space, draft picks, and/or prospects) to get a player who Q will not play in an appropriate role or not play at all.

As for Martin, he's a bruiser/hitter suited for the 4th line. He's not a 3-zone player with 3rd line potential. If Martin is a 3rd liner, then the team (whether the Hawks or other team) has roster holes.

I guess they were clearing space for Demers and Lucic signings. The Oilers top 4 D is going to be vastly improved next year, and they had to give up Taylor Hall to get a piece of that. As a 1-for-1 face value trade, the Devils win the trade. But both teams just got a lot better for next year. The Oilers are making some smart moves as far as building the team they need to.

Pretty interesting Chiarelli has now had the opportunity to trade the top two picks from that draft(Hall, Seguin).

I thought there was no way they would trade Hall for Seabs. I actually think that could have been a real possibility. I know we did not have anyone to replace seabs but we have no one to be a 1LW either and hall is going to be just as good in 4 years as he is now. Seabs? No and he will be under contract for 4 more years.

I hear ya. But, I think Larsson is a solid #2, had a much improved year last year. Think he led them in +/- he is improving too. Oilers need defense/toughness in the absolute worst way. They do not need a passing defensibly inconsistent winger. This is essentially adding Lucic and Larsson who will both vastly improve their defense, while losing a piece they can replace internally quite easily.

I totally agree, AL.

So tired of the Kane toews Seabrook talk that they should have be offered and taken small dollar amounts...unfortunately you don't have to look far around the NHL to see so many of these guys up for contract haven't won squat and they ask and get outrageous. We thought when Tallon screwed the RFA paperwork up on those three hawk contracts (late so he quietly paid MORE that the 10% qualifier)... well the very THOUGHT that the Bruins (one of the most fiscally responsible organization, cough, jeremy jacobs cheap) are deciding if they want to poah Trouba from the Jets... GM Don Sweeney is preparing an offer sheet for Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba. The offer would reportedly total a minimum of $47 million, with the aim of signing Trouba to a deal that the Jets can’t afford to match. “Because they sent their 2017 third round pick to the Flyers for Zac Rinaldo and their 2017 second round pick to New Jersey for Lee Stempniak, the Bruins must put together an offer sheet with an average annual value (AAV) of at least $9.3 million that will require Boston to give up four consecutive first round picks as compensation.”
Spector: A $9.3 million per season offer sheet could indeed be more than the Jets are willing to match, but it’s also a huge risk for the Bruins. Trouba has undeniable potential to become a top-two defenseman, but he’s struggled through injury and inconsistency the last two seasons. Inking him to a $9.3 million per season deal could prove a costly mistake if he fails to progress as expected. Not to mention giving up four first-round draft picks could significantly hurt the Bruins rebuilding efforts.
This isn't some fabricated story, it is CSN New England reporting.

so i like Jacob Trouba but these like so many of these available commodities rumored in the trade market are not like any of the winners the Chicago franchise has rewarded for winning.
That is what you do...when true elite guys are up for contract.

Not that I don't expect the franchise re-tools and loses a big contract during the next couple years, but unfortunately you can't over-reward the guys in your mid-line-up either.

- wiz1901

Yes and the Bruins gave up on Boychuk not long ago because they were in a cap squeeze. Now they may pay the motherload for Trouba....Hmmm times are changing out of necessity.

Clelearing space? Hall was only making $6 mil AAV for the next 4 years. Might clear space for Lucic, but not both.

How so? I think in the long run, Edmonton will be better having Larsson than they would Hall. The Oilers had a log jam of young Forwards. Nothing on the blueline. Someone had to go. They can build around McDavid--who looks like he could live up to the "generational talent" tag.

Now they have Larsson and Lucic, two guys that can lead a group of young guys that has had no direction for the past number of years.
