He's a goalie....very raw, long term project in my view, but given our weakness there in the system worth a look. Think he has prototypical size/athleticism combo.
- kwolf68

It's interesting to me that they seem to be quietly amassing some depth at goalie recently.

That has been a weakness for years now. Even when the hawks had a Top 10 system, their goalies were always the weakness.

According to General Fanager he is at a cap hit of 700k. Pretty darn solid.
- Hawks_49

Ah he is listed as non-roster. Thanks! Haven't had my morning coffee yet. I assume that means he isn't counted against the cap? That is an awfully nice number though, especially if he can be a 4/5 type guy. Every little bit extra space helps.

This is a huge word, one that 20 other teams peddle this time of the year. The Hawks will need a LOT of "IFS" to come through to be in the mix next year. Could it happen? Sure can. Will it? Won't know until we know.

The Hawks already have a matt martin, his name is Andrew Desjardins and he would stand toe to toe with martin any day of the week and twice on Sunday but that is not the roll he is asked to play. I know that 7/1 is almost upon us but can we slow our roll a little with the "doom and gloom" and let's see where the chips fall before we decide the fate of the Hawks upcoming season.

It took me a bit to find him. Had to scroll down near the bottom. That's a very attractive cap hit especially if he ends up being the 4/5 D he is projected as. Hopefully he comes over and pulls a Panarin and makes a huge impact.

Crawford or Seabrook gone this year or next. It's a mathematical certainty in the cap world.

Looks like Klas Dahlbeck is an UFA. Worth a look on D? Didn't he go in the Vermette deal?

Agreed. I see them maybe signing Campbell and one UFA forward to a very team friendly deal. Would not mind Brad Richards either as that one guy on a team friendly deal. Other than that, a lot of Rockford guys.

Correct...but only if they sign Panarin to a big deal. If Panarin is out of their price range, and they decide to deal him, then those guys probably stay.

Man - What kind of haul would the Hawks get for Panarin if he is priced out? Teams would be lined up I would guess.

I went back and read the last 3 pages or so I saw absolutely NO doom and gloom...just commentary on proposed free agents, fits on the team, prospects, players not qualified and the Hall of Fame.

Maybe some folks want to see doom and gloom so they can lecture people about it.

BTW---Desi is only at 800K....I doubt Martin comes that cheap. I don't think he's getting 3 mllion per either. That's nuts for a guy who does little more than hit and get to the net.

Ya when you saw him on the 85 Bears 30 for 30 you knew he wasn't going to be around much longer.

Actually made me cry, and I never cry.

Devante smith pelley and jarrod tinordi were not qualified yesterday. DSP seems like a young PWF with lots of potential.
- ikeane

I'm sure there will be a good bit of guys who went unqualified that will end up resigning with their teams for less than the qualifying offer would have been, and Pelley could be one of them.

Didn't know this but read where MTL questioned his fitness, that his preparation is his problem. Maybe so but as a 2nd rounder, 24 yrs old, his size/speed/physical play combo is intriguing to a lot of clubs. He seems to have turned a bit of a corner with top 6 minutes and some PP time in Jersey with 13 points in 18 games.

Fact remains he's played in parts of 5 seasons and at 24 yrs old his best season points wise was with Jersey-MTL last year with 25 points.

Seeing the list of unqualified players and lower end UFA's is encouraging. This is where scouting has to make a difference and they need to find a cheap fit(s) and hopefully find a gem that makes a real difference in the top 6.

Scouting, GMing and coaching need to perform at a high level starting July 1st.

Looking at tsn top 40 ufas.
Would matt Martin, David schlemko and maybe chimera and parenteau be REALISTIC CAP wise additions???

- Abadseed

It’s assumed that another big UFA fish, former Panthers blueliner Brian Campbell, is preparing to sign a deal with Chicago.

This, according to all the in the know media types, is a foregone conclusion.

Me, the skeptic wonders....

I can't get my head around any or many outside signing....and

Matt Martin

I love Matt Martin
If I was a GM he would be so high on my list as my checking line stalwart....but...

just because he had a Bickell type intial deal with the Isles for many a season making a million dollars ... can we all assume

a) Matt Martin wants to sell his home, and move elsewhere to make a few thousand more?
b) That Matt Martin is unhappy there?, and he knows the Isles have the money to give him a raise.
c) he is SO hell bent to wear the Indianhead on April 1st, he will be sitting in O'Hare airport waiting for the ok from his agent to take the BlurLine downtown to sign his new $1,000,000 contract?

and finally

d) that Matt Martin has no interest in a much larger contract somewhere that secure his family's finnancial future?

It is nice to wish for this giuy or this guy, but sometimes the universe simply must come into alignment.

(and you know what? You could easily say the same for Campbell...)

Ditto. That show was very moving because of the respect the players showed him, and because of the things he did for them.

I still would like to kick the tires on Yak. Gut says put him on a line with 72 and 15 and the guy will be just fine. I think he is makng 2.5. I could see McGinn asking for about the same though.

Major shakeup at Rogers for HNIC broadcasts: bad ratings, lots of criticism of the changes made when they came in two years ago.

Would you take Gaustad at the right price. What is he worth? $1.5 mil? 4C? PK? Faceoff specialist?

Did you cry because you were thinking that if he and Ditka could have put their damn egos aside for brief period of time, the Bears would have won multiple Super Bowl titles? Instead, Ryan failed as a head coach, and Ditka led the Bears to consecutive first-round exits, where he was totally outcoached by Joe Gibbs.

Hard to believe that one football team could be arguably the greatest team of all time AND still be the most underachieving, but that's our mid-1980s Bears ....

Still remember what the Bears defense told McCaskey after the 85 Super Bowl....keep Buddy and we'll win you the next 4 Super Bowls.

The Bears defenses of 86-88 were very good, in fact statistically the 86 team was better, but against the bigger offensive lines like the Redskins it wasn't as dominant man up and Tobin was just so conservative. Buddy would have unleashed the dogs more...though in the 21-17 loss to the Redskins that was just a fluky ass loss from the beginning, but poop happens.
