Jason Chimera is available as a LW. He has been a real glue guy here with the Caps for many years, and would be a solid pickup for the Hawks. He can move up and down the lineup. Not sure what he has left as a 37 year old, but definitely worth a look.

HEy , whats Erickson going to get in the open market ?

Im suprised we have nit heard his name attached to the Hawks. You ;ve got to figure he is more of a 2nd tier option after Ladd and Lucic but better than McGinn . Maybe Lou Erickson could be that 5 years at 4.5 m type

- mrpaulish

How are they gonna afford that? Unless they unload a contract above $4.5M AAV, they are going dumpster diving after July 1.

Seems like a lot of quality depth pieces upfront and on D are out in the open now and were not qualified , I think maybe the Blackhawks might have a plan huh ? Seems even the average clubs are not wanting to pay 2m to bottom 6 contributors . The Blackhawks might be ok after all . Might be able to pay a 1 LW for 4.5 per and then fill out the roster with nice pieces at 1m each.

Others teams starting to feel the squeeze a bit perhaps Mr. P? Lots of names out there. The top guys getting big coin and then you've got the lower tier. Should be interesting here.

Per @2ndCityhockey: The Chicago Blackhawks extended one qualifying offer to Mark McNeill, while Mathieu Brisebois, Matt Fraser, Garrett Ross and Ryan Haggerty all will now become unrestricted free agents July 1.

I don'tthink there is any way Hawks can sign anyone but a million or less UFA'S even if we found the money for next year how do we sign Panarin next year if we got Ericsson or McGinn , or Ladd ect on the books for 3 or 4 years. I mean we had to dump a 21 year old to loss 4 million for one year. I think we have to cross our fingers and hope SB hits a couple home runs with UFAS cheap ones at that, and let's not bring back former Hawks Campbell, Smith or Fleishman let's move on

I don't ever recall this many RFAs (and ones at this caliber) going unsigned.

That only helps Stan with his dumpster diving mission. There will be a lot of these fringe/role players looking to stay in the league.

Someone better than me at it needs to photoshop Stan's face onto someone who is really dumpster diving and this can be the new "Stan on the Unicorn"

It's too bad he turned out the way he did. He clearly went off the rails from his days Captaining his team in the OHL.

I remember watching him live and he had that potential to be an effective super pest.

That was the hope, then Hartman came along. Also, Ross did not have anything close to a great season this season. His production regressed, and was playing 4th line minutes by season's end.

The writing was kinda on the wall for him dating back last fall. Hartman made him a redundant piece in the system, and with the others ahead of him on the depth chart, there wasn't going to be room for him in Chicago as it sat. The off-ice issue became the final nail in the coffin for Ross.

I hope Ross catches on with another organization. He's a good kid, but obviously needs to straighten a few things out both on the ice and off of it.

Agreed. However, it will be interesting to watch Shaw with the Habs. I wouldn't be surprised if he's employed as the Habs version of Marchand, or ends up battling Marchand on a regular basis.
- EKB13

That picture of Shaw loading up with the left over Marchand is the desktop picture on my computer. And I agree with Enzo as to the gaping hole in the lineup his absence will cause. But I also agree with the person who said his contract will be like a Bolland contract. Shaw already knows he has to change his go to word when he becomes infuriated but it also includes another "f" word now that he's in Montreal. He'll be missed, who is going to go to the net outside of Toews and AA?

That's what they need to try to find in that dumpster.

A cheap, gritty forward who has a nose for the net. Unfortunately it may be someone like Steve Downie which is a far stretch from an Adrew Shaw, but that's the world Stan lives in right now.

Ben Smith was a good player, but as mentioned hasn't been the same since the concussion...Flash probably too much tread on the tire. As far as Soupy
he's still playing decent minutes and would solidify that lower pairing as JJ mentioned possibly their most depth on defense in the last several years.

No question getting Panarin signed is the key and we just saw Forsberg get 6m per...would think Panarin will want at least that. And Stan needs to get this done otherwise we're looking at another Saad situation next spring which the Hawks can ill afford.

As far as the Canucks go, Higgins looks pretty much done. Apparently a great guy in the room, but he looked washed out there last year. Wondering if the Hawks would look at Bartkowski as a depth signing. Good wheels, nothing flashy, but steady. Hope they sign Campbell for no more than 1.5. Then finally say goodbye to Rozy.

Yep. It's the Pareto Principle. 20% of the population (in this case NHL player) will get 80% of the total salaries paid.
- matt_ahrens

Correct but the difference is with the Player's Union everyone gets the same amount of votes....At some point a good portion of the 80% aren't going to feel like the present structure is in their best interest....

How does he get in but Doug Wilson, Steve Larmer and Dave Andreychuck and Mark Recchi are not?
