I think Pan look for 6 mil per with term. IF he wants to be a Hawk. Kid doesn't know the language that well but he sure knows how to talk about the Hawks' chronic cap problems.

Good for Shaw. Sucks we lost him but at least he got a solid long term deal.

If I'm Stan, I try to get him at 8 years for $5 mil. If he wants a shorter deal with a larger AAV, try $6 x 6. Can't let this kid go if you want a real shot at a championship in the near future.
- EnzoD

Any way you slice it if Panarin is kept the core gets younger, and that's a good thing IMO. And f they need a total rebuild in 4-5 years you'd think he'd bring back a bunch in a TDL move.

DeBrincat says he's apower forward, an dbelive he doesn't play small.
He takes the puck away from you, not just in front, where evr he can get close to you.
Its sort of like he closed that little "talking space" you have in a conversation, and before you know it, you pocket is picked.
Still, like Johnny hockey, Conor Sheary, Tyler Johnson you want to see himdo it the highest level, before you wet your pants.

- wiz1901

Obviously you have to wait and see what he can bring at the NHL level. If he fails, I don't think playing scared will be the reason. Pretty sure I didn't anoint him to anything.

I have seen him play plenty of times.

Is it a good sign for the Hawks when about half of those not receiving qualifying offers from other teams are considered upgrades to our bottom 6 and some even talked about as possibly in our top 6 ? or maybe not, Maybe all teams cutting players in order to free up cap space to sign who they consider most valuable ? Looks like a buyers market on low to mid range talent this year. Mid-High end talent salaries rise , Low - mid end talent salaries drop ?

I wouldn't be so sure if those not receiving qualifying offers are better. We have no idea what the bottom 6 is as of yet.

Florida didn't qualify Quinton Howden, he could be a decent 4th line PK forward somewhere.
- DarthKane

Watched my share of FLA last year and Howden along with Logan Shaw played hair on fire wrecking ball 4th line together a good bit. .....Howden is very interesting.

Looks like the new GM is moving a few Tallon guys out. Kulikov, Campbell?, Gudbrundson, Howden?.

If nothing else it provides more options to look at or consider. There are bound to be guys not qualified because of a numbers game, useful players.

This is where scouting makes their money. If you find a useful player that's great, but a gem may be in the pile.

Good enough to play in the NHL while Hartman and McNeil were in the AHL. I hope the former first rounders are NHL
ready. I'm not saying Ben Smith is the answer, but give the guy some credit for playing in the Show most of his career while the 1st rounders have 3 combined games of NHL experience....

He is a nasty little bugger. Will use his stick to create space. Kid has played his whole career on NA ice. The OHL isn't a league for shrinking violets. He already has put up 2 50 goals seasons in that league.

I'd prefer to have Weise over Fleischmann, but I don't see him coming back to Chicago given how the situation transpired here for him. I would be fine with Fleischmann signing a one-year cap friendly deal.
- DarthKane

Agreed. Fleisch seemed to fade badly...at least to my eyes. Hawks need speed, size/grit, scoring or elite PK. He seems to offer none of those--though PK was pretty good, but not exceptional IMO. Better off going younger vs signing Fleisch cheap

Fair enough, and no he is not the answer. Smith is just a guy now. He was never the same after the Brendan Smith hit, and he has HANDS OF STONE. But we will always remember him for his game six OT winner on LU.

Joe Colborne wasn't qualified by Calgary....that could be an interesting scenario.

6'5", 221 lbs and he scored 44 points last season, last year's cap hit was $1.275 million.

Interesting...see size w/ some scoring ability. You're full of all kinds of good intel today Darth

Neither was Richard Panik, and he was the 1LW in the playoffs on the Hawks. I was a big fan of Smith but the Brendan smith 4 seconds late head shot in the preseason took something out of him. Still, he's been an NHL player while McNeil and Hartman played in the AHL. Hartman and McNeil are 4th line 1st rounders until they prove otherwise.
