Landing one of those two would be huge.
Just to clarify JJ, hope I'm not coming off as a pain in the ass, but did you mean they are failing to reach out to McGinn or failing with Ladd?? - 93Joe
Hawks still have negotiating rights to Ladd until Friday. Can't talk to McGinn until then. |

So this may be a little too tin foil hat but I haven't heard much discussion of stans comments after the draft. He said, you will find out our plan soon, or something close to that. Any chance he new about ship or possibly Hawks lawyers/staff found the previously elusive loophole? His answer made me think he knew something we didn't and he was pretty proud of himself. like I said maybe looking into it but seems possible - lunchbox2111
Ya he said something to the reporters like "you'll figure out what we are doing soon enough" or something to that extent.
Yes, made me think they knew exactly what they were doing;
Ship, Vessey, Campbell ? |

I thought you could talk to FA's before the period opened now. Thought they said this at the draft on Saturday.
They were speculating that would bring Stamkos to the draft |

I stand corrected. Sort of. Half right, half wrong.
They CAN sign Ladd now. Can't sign McGinn til 7/1. And i think you'll see a whole lot of stupid money thrown around on 7/1 because of the new wrinkle. |

Of all the guys not qualified, Colborne is the best of the bunch IMO. Big guy with skill, not physical throwing the body but would be a cheaper option in the top 6 than Ladd. I think he would be a good addition to the team, but idk how the money works to add anyone over $1mil AAV..... |

Couple pf things and some more info.
I HIGHLY DOUBT the Hawks will enter into any kind of bidding war for Campbell—on any scale—so if he wants to go to Dallas for another $500K per, he will. My opinion based on what I've heard (and what I know—they can't afford a bidding war over a non-essential player).
What I heard this afternoon:
Hawks are apparently still talking to Ladd, but failing that will reach out to McGinn. However, the Hawks—barring a trade of a bigger salary—will wait in free agency until the stupid dollars are spent.
Shipachyov situation is very unclear. If he is freed up to come over, Hawks will pursue.
At present, the Hawks plan to contact Vesey's agent if he hits UFA.
Apparently still talking to NJ. - John Jaeckel
Any thoughts of a pitch in which the Hawks can offer Vesey a top 6 spot immediately (would they do that) in order for Vesey to play with 19 or 88--
Would that be enticing to an ELC player that will get the same money from all teams on that deal-- He comes to the Hawks to 'win now' play with a few future HOF players in their prime--and then get paid on that second contract -- even go home to Boston and make some real money--
I know it is expected he wants to play in Boston an that his dad is a scout for the Leafs-- |

Florida didn't qualify Quinton Howden, he could be a decent 4th line PK forward somewhere. - DarthKane
I've been a fan of this guy for a while. He's got wheels and uses his body on the forecheck.
Helots of young guys in FLA cold be a good pickup for the lower lines. |

What about Brett Connelly the Bruins didn't qualify, does anyone think he would be worth a chance. I would think about Chris Stewart I think he is a fee agent. If you could get him for a million or less |

Maybe...id rather give Howden a shot. |

Can players who have not be given qualified offer sign immediately with a team do they have to wait till July 1st? |

I don't know about Connelly. IIRC, there's a mix of injuries and under-achieving there.
As for Chris Stewart, perhaps you have the cheap version of Bickell there. Then again, it's anotehr version of Bickell, and the team doesn't need another under-achieving floater out on the ice. |

They need a LW - so out of all the names thrown out, Vesey is the only one who actually plays the position and would not be a stretch to play 1/2 LW ala McGinn

No, but they can meet or talk with any teams about interest and general potential contract terms, no promises or binding commitments. |

Long time reader, just joined and 1st post.
Wouldn't the best situation be keeping TVR and saving that money to either add Soupy or another defender? I think the money you would save in not trading for Moore makes more sense elsewhere. - gpulvino
Welcome to the board.
Yes keeping TVR would be better all things being equal but if the Hawks think they can turn the kid into a semi-Oduya they see it being a solid deal despite the extra 8ook.
But I have to think if the Hawks were high on Moore and the Devils not as much the Hawks would have been known to have been after him at last year's TDL.

TVR in my opinion is still developing physically due to all the previous injuries he sustained. He will be bigger and stronger and hopefully that translates to more quickness and speed. He already thinks the game well and will get better with more experience
To me last year toward the end of the year he started jumping into plays in the offensive end and showed speed to catch up to join the play.
Maybe Q did not allow him this freedom until the end of the season so we are just beginning to see all aspects of his game.
I say keep him and see how much more he develops this season - molly2522
I just want to add Seabs has never been known for his explosiveness and he's done ok. It's not always the fastest skaters that get to the right spot first. Guys with IQ don't need high end speed to be in the right place at the right time. .. I'd point to guys like Sopel, Rozival, Matt Martin, Scuderi a few years ago and as long as we're on the subject I think Rasmussen falls into that category although I see his skating as better than most fans do.
If you don't play out of position (IQ ) you don't need recovery speed.
