TVR for Moore is all about having one less deal to negotiate next year. Maybe they already know TVR wants more than what Moore makes. - Return of the Roar
their contracts are the same length, so I don't think that's it. I think it's more a system fit, John Moore way more mobile and a good puck moving defenseman |

It could be the expansion draft. They can't protect TVR. Might as well try and upgrade before he is lost. |

Not sure I get what you're saying.
I did hear BTW that expansion enters into the thinking for the Hawks.
I'll stand by Moore's better size/speed combination being something that gives him a bit more upside in Q's system over the next few years. But THAt is my opinion. - John Jaeckel
Agree with both of those points, but unless they're retaining some of Moore's salary, you and I have different definitions of "picking up a little more salary". Moore's salary is double TVR's. |

Could the new team just pickup John Moore in expansion? |

Yes. I was thinking that Moore may be a short-term solution. Why continue to develop TVR is you can't keep him? And if Moore is not picked up, his cap hit is not bad for next year. |

Someone who knows the rules better should answer, but my understanding is that anyone who is isn't protected via certain contract/years of service terms is subject to selection unless otherwise being designated as "protected" by the team.
So in a summer where the Hawks already have to purge Shaw, likely lose Ladd, and possibly shed other salaries (Kruger, Crawford, etc.), they also have to have a protection plan for next summer, find $$$ for Panarin, and somehow upgrade LW/D. Tall order |

THEY could...since he or TvR would most likely be available.
if they didn't want Darling,
or if the really loved an available hawk forward.
That is the issue I have with John Moore...he isn't improving that I can see, he makes more $ and you basically are making ths deal why?
Moore makes 1,666,666 and TvR $825,000 both have two season left.
A lot of fans seem to think that Las vegas will take the BEST THREE goalies, marquee named defenders and veteran forwards, but in all expansions, the new teams KNOW theya re not winning quickly so they don't go high Cap from the onset.
I would imagine they will take a solid horsehorse goalie and then maybe look at two back-up types who might eventually project as full blooded starters.
I thnk they do take a marquee name or two at forward and defense, BUT esentially ESPN is spot on the new team as one who doesn't take Bishop or Fleury or high ticket skaters...

Trade Kruger after July 1st and his AAV 3.1 but his actual salary is about 2.6 (about where it should be. Sign Ship for 3 or 4 years at 3 mil. And then one of SHip or AA goes to the 3rd line. with moose on the 4th line.

Thanks Wiz.
It makes no sense to me to trade TVR under the auspices of "we may lose him, so lets get something for him anyway", and then you trade around and get a guy in the exact same spot (where you could lose him and get nothing for him anyway) and he's more expensive to boot.
I won't belabor rumors, but this is another one that confuses me. |

I see John's point when he says that Q may have more tools to work with in JM. What I am puzzled about is then the Hawks will have 5 LHD and 1RHD (Seabrook). Could NJ or another team be putting up more for TVR because he is a RHD? Maybe it's something on the DL to maybe drive up the price? An interesting proposal for sure.
EDIT: Are the devils trying to get JVR also and want to unite the brothers at home? They sure could use a top 6 winger and have the cap space and assests to add one. |

No. Because Hjalmarsson played most of his time w Hawks on the right side. First w Campbell, then w Oduya. Last year started on the right w Daley, but once Daley was dealt, he was moved all over the place. - Nerko77
Just a small correction - Hjammer was never paired with Daley. They played all of 13:20 together, which is pretty much just the time they were caught on the ice together during a switches.
He also didn't really move all over the place - he has 2 primary partners at even strength during the regular season in Keith (about 900 minutes) and TVR (over 300 minutes while Keith was out). He played on the right with both of them. He played on the left for a bit with Seabrook while Keith was out too, but only about half as much as with TVR.
The last time Hjammer played 'significant' time on the left side was about 350 minutes with Seabrook in 2012 (the rest of the time spent on the right with Leddy). |

Panarin will not come cheap. (As we already knew) - Marlowe
That's what they should offer Panarin. If he wants close to $7M? Then the Hawks have some serious contemplating to do. |

I guess I dont understand this rumor of JM for TVR. I think TVR is a pretty solid D. He may not have big time wheels, but he understands where he needs to be and is a good shot blocker. JM has bounced around to several teams. With cap space being so tight, this move just does not make sense. I would wait on this until after we land another LW. Be it McGinn, Hudler or whoever. |

There you go again with that thin skin, John. The vast majority here appreciate what you do, and understand the nature of rumors. A couple like to stir the pot. Ignore the few so you can serve the many. - Cmonalready

I will admit that I don't know much about Moore, but from what I do know I don't see much reason to take on the additional cap hit. I'm a TvR fan, while I believe he's a solid #5 defenseman I think there is potential for more (no pun intended). |

I had heard earlier the Hawks were high on his list, if not high-est. Not sure where it would stand today and haven't heard anything yet. They have a spot for him. |
