It would be right on par with the Semin signing, which should be unacceptable this time around
- obie

No it wouldn't.

As far as trading for a F, I would be asking about Jeff Carter in LA... with only 18 players under contract and just over 7 million in cap space you would think the Kings will unload an asset at some point, especially with a couple good young players up for new deals next year, including Toffoli
- obie

Habs don't have the assets to land a player like that. I'm sure they will sign some mediocre winger to play on the 2nd line.

Besides stamkos, there aren't many, if any, true 1st line forwards available. Staal, Lucic and Okposo who else? Let's not pretend Backes ad Ladd are because Staal as a 1st liner is a reach.

He would certainly have the assets to land Carter if LA felt they needed cap relief... Beaulieu, McCarron and a 1st! And thats overpayment, no way the Habs even do that

Habs dont need a 1st line forward, they need 2 top 6 F... players that make THEIR top 6 better and Staal, Backes and Ladd all qualify

I could see Ladd in Montreal, considering Bergevin likes Hawks players all that much. They already have a good first line in mtl, they need players to play on the second line with plekanec.

I would love Ladd in MTL for 3-4 years south of 6 million but I would play him at C on the 2nd line and have Plekanec C the 3rd line

I think gallager, galchenyuk, and patches is your 1st line. They need someone to play with Plekanec and Shaw. I can see them signing hudler, erikson or boedker. I'd stay as far away from staal, lucic, backes, and Ladd, as possible.

I don't think habs can afford to give up beaulieu with Markov retiring in the next few years. Their defensive depth is pretty awful.

Those guy's will get long term contracts and be useless 3 or 4 years from now. You always overpay on term and salary for the big name free agents.

Yes, they drafted an 18 year old kid who has never played a game in the nhl. He will be good at some point, buts what's your plan in the mean time?

Ladd and Backes will get 3-5 years max... and you suggested Eriksson as if he wont get more for longer

Don't need 1st line players... Gallagher is on it ffs, and what if galchenyuk regresses cause you know the games might matter which is when he was strug-o-ling.

I doubt Louis eriksson gets more on the open market then the other 2. And guaranteed somebody offeres 6 year deals to all of them. Backes is 32. In a bidding war, someone will give him and extra year or 2 to land him.

I didn't say I was happy about it. Just pointing out what reality is. Habs don't have the cap space to land a top line player.

Middling d-man, fringe NHLer/AHLer, and a middle round pick (depending if Price is injured or not) doesn't get you a Jeff Carter.

No, but he's probably going to be in the top pair once Markov is gone. Emelin isnt good enough and Petry is a right shot. Beaulieu is your only option.
