If Stamkos walk (and he should), Yzerman did a very poor joob getting nothing for him. He will be the top UFA in history, most likely. Tampa has a good team, but poor management of assets is poor management of assets. - deadpoulet
They had a legitimate shot at the stanley cup. What message do you send when you trade your captain and best player for assets at the deadline going into the playoffs |

well that's a unique situation. they are a legit Cup contender. how were they supposed to trade him? and even had they traded him, the return would have been modest as it is for most rentals. likely a first rounder in the 20s, a mediocre prospect and a bottom 6 schmuck. if Stamkos doesn't want to be there, which appears to be the case, there isn't much Yzerman could do. - DoubleDown
He's not any rental. Franchise players don't move just like that at at any time. They had one year to get this done. When they realized they could not do it, they should have move him.
Anyway, I don't care, it's Tampa. |

and think of how ridiculous he would look on Desharnais' wing. he could potentially put up 50 points. |

What about Jesse Puljujarvi on McDavid's wing?
Their defense is still gonna suck |

i feel like we've been saying this for 4 years now but they will probably trade something from their forward group for some help on D. |

know what the best part is? even with a healthy McDavid, they could very well be a lottery team again next year. |

Nugent-Hopkins is obviously available but no GM is gonna undress his defense for a 50 points center. Maybe Nugent-Hopkins + Eberle could get you something, but not a number one.
At least Talbot doesnt suck, he had a ,917 with that horrible defense |

but that's $12 million...
Talbot seems to be a very average starting goalie. he's not going to hide any flaws. |

Maybe. The UFA market for defensemen is pretty thin. They still lack a true number one defenseman. +, their goalie is ok, nothing more. |

I have confirmed that Shipachov won't need to buy-out or terminate his contract in #KHL to leave for #NHL if that happens after June 30th

I don't think anyone doubts Edmonton's lineup ability to score goals.
Puljujarvi could easily become their best winger in no time.... but it doesn't help their lack of quality defensemen.
They have to trade someone up front for defensive help at some point. |

to this point Edmonton's management has reminded me of Bergevin in that sense. major holes in the lineup but unwilling to touch any piece of the core. |

I get what you mean but I don't believe their situation is the same.
While we do have numerous decent defensemen in our lineup, I don't believe we can be considered stacked with top end talent on the defensive front like Edmonton is with forwards.
Trading a guy like Beaulieu for a forward, creates a hole in our defense for sure while Edmonton could spare a Yakupov/ RNH/ Eberle without suffering as much. |
