Vanek is toast though. Minny just bought him out. They're paying him to not play. We don't need that type of player. Wilson will be given his chance this year.
I don't love our LW situation. I just hate Vanek even more. - madmike71
Agree - I have never liked Vanek, even at his peak. He seems like a selfish, truly lazy hockey player.
As for LW - I would LOVE the Pens to make a run at Louie Eriksson. |

I happy with the picks.. Went with skill/ what they need in depth when they still have guys like kuni and Fehr on the books...
I am upset with holding onto flower and kuni.. They could have gotten some 2nds and prospects etc... And helped the team next year and in the future... Now they have no cap space to play with ufas.. Especially not being able to sign Schultz... That disappoints me...
I'll keep my odds of signing Vesey on Aug 15th as 15-1 odds... |

Watch Beau become a 30 goal scorer in Jersy where he won't be misused on the 4th line. Hopefully he works out hard this summer and puts on a ton of muscle. Hires a nutritionist that gets lots of calcium and protein in his diet. This will be his last chance. I wondered why Rutherford qualified him. There's no spot for him on the Penguins. Speaking of Rutherford he had a pretty less than spectacular day. Not trading MAF is a huge mistake and it will end up either costing us Murray or an asset to entice some team to take him a la Bickel. I don't see a Sprong or a Simon or any player that is going to make the team any time soon. The best forward we got is headed to the NCAA for 4 years. And it sounds like Lovejoy and Shultz are both gone and not in his plans what so ever. Pouliot gets his chance and Cole has to learn to play the right side. We are still going to be short a 7th dman unless Oleksiak is their man. They should have drafted Bleakly and Debrincat. They are at least closer to being useful. A coUple of "throw back" dmen, whatever that means? Goons who are 1 dimensional and useless to our system? I don't think the franchise improved today outside of getting Gustavson. |

There was literally no chance they were or are going to trade Kunitz. None. |

The day Beau scores 30 is the day I become the President of the Maldives. It won't happen.
Debrincat was gone before we picked. He went to Chicago at 39. |

It is amazing how so many on here are like a mirror reflection of RW. You all believe your opinions matter in the sense of stomping your feet if you don't get your way or if others don't agree with your negative sky is falling mentality.
Go look in a mirror and just accept that when it comes to certain issues pertaining to hockey/Penguins your opinion means NOTHING. Time and time again the complainers and the arm chair GM(s) just can't grasp reality and realize their opinion is worthless....if it was of value there would be 30...soon to be 31 teams lining up for your services....so relax, sit back and just enjoy what comes your way and leave your pointless points of view for the kindergarden class.
If you believe your opinion truly matters to the front office of the Pens or any other team matters, head straight to a mirror look in it and see the ego standing before you!! - Darklight11

t apparently makes more sense to over-react to what some blogger wrote about a third round pick on Twitter than to trust the Penguins' scouts and their connections to Jay McKee. The Penguins employed two guys in their Cup run who were defensively minded, and both of those guys played great.
The allmighty goon love hardnosed
They did? Who was that again? Cole and Lovejoy? The worst 2 players on the team? I swear you have a tv that shows you different versions of the games than the rest of us. |

The facts from my standpoint are pretty evident. Start looking what we have as a group of prospects and take it from there. |

No you're right. And that's why he was picked, and BPA is a solid rule of thumb when you're picking in the top 20, maybe even the entire first round. But once you get to second rounders is such a crap shoot that I see no issue with drafting for need. - Victoro311
Respectfully I completely disagree with this mindset, in the 1st round and especially in the top 20 you are looking at blue chip players that all have a higher probability of succeeding so that is the time to skew more towards filling a need, in the later rounds, when everyone is a crap shoot is the time to draft BPA because the BPA will have a better chance of succeeding and eventually helping the team than a lesser play that fills a need will.

And the $11-15 million in freed up cap space they have going into the 2017-18 season with a pretty good core of players signed long term and a cheap goalie doesn't affect that opinion? |

How often do FA acquisitions(especially the bigger names) actually work out for the teams that sign them? Without looking up any information I'm guessing it's way less than 50% of the time it works out, more often than not the top FA players end up being over payed both in dollars and in term and never live up to the value of the contracts. Count me among the non-Xbox fans that is very happy they won't be big players in FA. |

Not with the expansion draft. Trading kuni and flower would help this year and in the future with the picks they would have gotten bc those kids would be automatically exempt.
Plus they could have gotten at least one top UFA and now they can't.. |

They had to qualify him to be able to trade him, without qualifying him they wouldn't have retained his rights and would have lost him for nothing as opposed to getting a pick for him. That's also why RFAs have to be qualified to be part of the expansion draft.

I was a little confused by that too. Saying it is a wasted pick an hour after a kid was drafted. Like it has been said, he played for Canada World Junior team.
Also, Elliott has never been a game eater. An injured MAF has played 34 more games than Elliott the last 2 seasons. Not having the fatigue of a 60-70 game-a-year goalie has to play into the stats. - hockeyman666768
Elliot is a career backup and is 31, there is zero reason to believe he can handle a starters role in this league and this will blow up in the Flames face. Another top 10 draft pick is in their immediate future. In the west you need good goaltending. The top 10 teams have it for the most part. The bottom feeders do not and Elliot is just another cheap bandaid like Hiller was, in fact Hller at least had a resume of being a starting goalie. |
