Please fix I-80! Phone flew off the dash three days ago and busted going through there...missed all of draft coverage.

Sorry, I work for the Post Office, plus I don't have enough time to do it in my spare time.

Here is an article by Adam Gretz that should help put people at ease. It won't stop the rumors.

I realize we just won the cup but I really dont like our top 6 winger situation unless we break up HBK. Sheary, Rust, Kunitz are nice players..but you could argue all three are better suited in the bottom 6. Man, we are asking Sid and Geno to carry these guys on their backs.

JR already said we won't be signing anyone in Free Agency. He said there is not enough cap room to sign anyone.

I really think we need to make a push for Nuke or Yak.

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Did you like our top 6 winger situation during the playoffs? It's likely going to be pretty similar.

So with no real 'action' or 'news' coming the Pens way due to the organisation having to rebuild the trophy cabinet , who is going to kill who on here first once the FA's start being signed by the teams that DIDNT WIN Stanley & we still have 2 starting goalies??

I've pretty much accepted the fact that Fleury is going to be a Penguin next season, and no I don't really think we'll be able to move him in the middle of the season like a lot of people think. I don't agree with it, but it is what it is. Now we have to be really smart with our ~2 mil in cap space. If we pick up two bone heap defensemen, I'll be content. We can't waist a cent on forwards, no matter how good of bargans they are. Resigning Schultz or Lovejoy is no longer an option. Both will be way too expensive unless they take an outlandish pay cut.

Well I'd rather be in our position with the hardest problem being who gets the Stanley Cup which day, than a few other organisations that need to lose players but still sign players due to the cap. I'd rather be us than the Oil at this particular time having the team that just won the Cup all coming back sans 2 players, with a projected star not included in that team that won (Pouliot - not counting him but you can if you want ). Rather not be the Hawks, Tampa & LA cause none of them won the Cup & look like being weaker teams next season! (frank), we're going to have 2 starting goalies to chose from!!

Now ask me in January if I still feel the same (Martox will dig this up - I'm sure he does the Swedish HB for EK!), & I'll let you know! But right now, I'm looking for my sun glasses due to the glare coming off the STANLEY CUP!

Yohes last blog basically goes over what some of us have been saying. Unless they trade someone with a high cap... Kuni flower. Pens aren't going to be able to sign anyone in free agency. Also 1 either Cole or DP will have to play their off side during the season...

I thought someone posted that Lovejob wanted a deal done to play next season? With 1m in the bank, looks like that could get Lovejob?? Mario will probably have to promise him a job at the end of his career but that's not unrealistic. Players looking after themselves with jobs in the organisation after their playing days are over - of course having taken hometown discounts to stay.

Cole has XP playing the right side. Some people say he's significantly worse on that side, but I really don't think so. If memory serves, he was playing the right side on a pairing with Rob Scuderi when he played so admirably last season down the stretch and in the playoffs.

We really can't. The rumor was he wanted 1.8-2 mil per 3 years to stay. We can't afford to throw that money at Lovejoy with limited cap space. I'd rather get two super cheap guys for depth than one dude at this juncture.

He was on the right when Pouliot and Cole were a thing. If memory serves they had good corsis. LOL. We'll get that chart sometime this offseason I'd imagine once Lovejoy and Schultz are officially gone. Too lazy to look up myself.

I have resigned myself to saying we won't have a first round pick. We will have to give it to Vegas for not selecting Murray. Don't get too excited.

Well that's the hope. Gotta get my degree first and then see what happens, though.

This train of thought would make sense if everyone developed at the same time and frequency. They don't so you have to look at other factors because even the ones that mature early get stagnant quickly. Drafting for need and then doing everything possible to make sure those picks have every chance to succeed is good strategy.
- Dcoms

I don't disagree with that strategy at all, my comments were more about what time frame to draft BPA/fill need, not necessarily which strategy is better.

Yeah I know, thanks. But who knew Bennet had any trade value at all, it was a crap shoot to qualify, find a taker in a trade, and make the deal because he didn't have a spot on this roster and they would have had to carry him.
- Dcoms

I think most people saw some value in Bennett, I don't think anyone could have imagined a 3rd round pick but he is definitely a low risk high reward player that I could have seen some teams value as a 5th or 6th round pick.

Playoffs are different than an 82 game regular season. Sheary looked like he was wearing down significantly. Kunitz found a way to elevate his game in the playoffs despite missing hands. Rust will need to learn to use his linemates better if he is going to be more than a passenger.

He's not. But being a nice guy is one thing. But to move his family across the country and play for an expansion team is asking a lot.

Hopefully GMJR has this all worked out. If I was Fleury though, I'd be trying to win my job back here. And if it came down to the last minute, it isn't really his problem, it's the Pens.

- Tojo.

I think that last part is something that people don't consider when looking at the situation, if Fleury truly loves it here then why wouldn't he want to take half a season to try to win his net back before committing to play somewhere else and quite frankly that isn't a horrible situation for the Pens to have 2 players pushing each other to have to be better to earn their playing time.

Still! They are able to sign however they want, they are choosing not to, there is a huge difference between what you keep saying and what is actually going on.

With 13 forwards (not counting Dupuis or Porter) and 6 Defenseman and the 2 goalies plus Scuderis' buyout we have a little over $3 million in cap space...unless I missed some bonuses owed

so anyone else noticed that the last couple of blogs have not been tagged under the "pittsburgh penguins" tag. so you can see them when you look at blogs sorted by team.

This week I would try to deal kuni for yak. Edm could use a 3 time cup winner and leader in kuni to help all those young kids. clears cap and gets a skilled winger.
