Further to this..now that this "loophole" has been exposed and discussed. What would stop Buffalo or anyone else from using it too? Pegula could pay him off the books just as easily as Toronto.

For sure, if they're willing. I mean, an extra 3.5M out of pocket a year ain't no chump change, so they might not have deep enough pockets for that, billionaire or not.

But this is all conjecture: point is, MLSE have deep pockets and if they can get the guy for a lower cap hit and find creative ways that Stamkos still gets paid, they're going to do it and the other teams might not be able to match.

The difference is this. Pegula while a very wealthy business man - in oil and real estate development owns a team that is 23rd in team revenue. Sure he can lose money, but any endorsements he would grant Stamkos in a small city, small market would be pure loss - not something businessmen like a whole bunch. Rogers/Bell own the majority of the telecommunications and cable market in Toronto. The fourth largest city in North America - dominant businesses in a dominant market place. Are you trying to say that if some rich dude, started a hockey franchise in Buumfuuuck Alaska - he could offer the same endorsements as Toronto. 3rd in revenue - without any playoff money! Give yourself a shake.

Went to the Price Chopper and bought some of those London Broilers, that were on sale, on Saturday. Have you ever went to Little Italy? I usually go south to Watertown on weekends.

The whole Stamkos to Toronto thing is more about building his own brand than getting massive endorsement deals. Yes, the endorsement deals will come. But the real money will be able to be made by creating your own poopty products and lines and selling them in Toronto.

People are dreaming with their endorsement arguement. Big money endorsements come from big companies and a Toronto area kid, playing in Toronto doesn't sell as well in the U.S. as people think.

Wrong way to look at it. Leafs have a big fan base - it is a very popular brand, Buffalo - not so much. Toronto is a very big market - Buffalo - not so much. The opportunity to sell product through promotion is greater in a bigger, more popular market. How much money did Jordan make selling shoes? Do you think he could have made the same if he played for New Orleans or Milwaukee?
