Stamkos watch is tooooo quiet. With the Leafs that could be a good thing. ... suspense is killing me though. I still think he goes elsewhere but it's hard to get rid of the hope and wish factor. |

Nothing happening till they go to Newport to make their pitches. Shanny and Babcock would be a pretty powerful 1-2 punch. |

If they don't land Stamkos any thoughts on other big dollar free agents? |

I remember when Shanny signed in Detroit in 2000. I saw a quote the other day that he said and direct quote
“It doesn’t matter how much money you make,” said Shanahan back then, this after he forewent free agency and signed with the Red Wings. “The most important thing is how you feel coming away from work every day . . . I know what I want and it’s here.”
That's a good pitch he will give to Stamkos. He's been in the exact same position as Stammer. |

That sounds like a pitch TBay would make.
Shanny needs to sell the Leafs as "as team on the rise" …"nothing better than winning in T.O." and "big bucks to be made in salary plus endorsements" |

I don't think a pitch matters.
My gut feeling is that if Stamkos is coming to Toronto, he has already made up his mind.

My feeling too. I have always thought since these rumours really started kicking off that it was either going to be Tampa or Toronto. now it seems like it's going to be Toronto |

They will do anything in their power to sign him. Hopefully 9-9.3 gets it done. But they will to as high as 10 if need be. |

Ya for sure. He won't be surprised by the $$ being offered. His agent has done on the research on endorsement dollars. He knows where teams stand in terms of chances to win. If there is an internal debate though a good emotional pitch could still sway the balance. |

Well, in usual Maple Leafs fans fashion, initial reaction is we hate whatever management did. We lost the Kessel trade (before even knowing what the full details were, and we did badly at the draft before knowing what the picks become.
Unlike last year, when we traded down, and everyone was pissed about trading down, we wished we had traded down this year.
Adding to this, unlike last year when we were pissed that we only drafting 5"9 midgets that, by all accounts, will get killed in the NHL, this year we are pissed that we drafted a combination of fat or lanky guys.
We are also pissed Bozak wasn't traded away, even though that would either leave us short on centres or look slightly dubious about our level of confidence in signing Stamkos.
A good general rule of thumb is whatever management do, we wish the opposite had happened.
All in all, another dark sad day in Maple Leafs history - walshyleafsfan
awesome summary!
you just missed capturing the vitriol that exploded when the Russian kid - who is 19!!!! was drafted.
