Too early to say the draft was not deep. Appears the Leafs used a strict strategy to draft bigger players that are older - perhaps a tad closer to play with the big club. Love some of the picks. The fact that not one pick after Matthews seemed to be according to draft ranking by others, might indicate Hunter knew something that others did not.

London has only won 2 Memorial Cups but the Hunters were in charge for both. I believe Hunter is doing a better job than past Leaf's Chief Scouts. This draft might not be as good as last year's which was reported as deep. Perhaps that explains so many Russian picks. Go Leafs. Go Lightning, Go Stamkos!

That TSN writeup makes me feel less good about this draft. I understand why they went with a few overagers, and some bigger guys after drafting all the tinys last year... The issue I have here is that a few of these guys, they mention they're not great skaters, and not good decision makers. That's the most worrying departure from last year's strategy.

I do like the London pick though. Having the insight of the coach to know that a guy just hasn't been getting th opportunity is pretty key. And you can bet he'll be a much bigger part of the team now that he's a Leaf prospect.
