Someone posted an analysis of overage values. More teams getting into analytics and such. I bet teams are using their analytics teams to redraft years to see where their data places them and see how they turned out. |

I love how 29 other teams' picks in those rounds will all pan out because one was picked at 45 when he was slated to go 46. STEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (don't think that happened, but you know what I mean) - weirdoh
Yup. I'm just looking at it saying cool, some big boys, if they work great. Not many big men in the system. Or Russians, cool, because I like Danny Markov and Konstantinov. Or I wanted Dube because it's a funny name, that's how tight my science is.
Actually I do hope Shanny and Babs have some connections in Russian hockey, like Federov, from their Red Wings connections, since the Wings did so well in that area. But it's all hope, it's a bunch of pulls on the slot machine arm. |

Maybe that extra bit of time they've had to show their game reduces the uncertainty by some percentage points or something, any way to get a little more accurate. |

Well considering his job being the draft and his OHL history he's proven to know youth..Nothing to do with what he has done in NHL...Drafting youth - Fruitcakenipple
The OHL draft is a whole different thing though. Hunter hasn't proven anything yet. We should all hope he ends up being a talent evaluating god but until the results are in we simply don't know how good he is at his job. |

i'd give it an A for matthews alone
as for the other prospects there is a ton of upside for each of them... but they need work... even if only 2 or 3 of them turn out to be good players... it will be a very big win for the draft - Dozzer

Except they weren't worth a 7th round pick, according to 30 teams, just one year ago. |

And at the end of the day, the Leafs got the big prize. All the other guys could not work out. It's highly likely to be better than in the past, when it was like oh yeah, that draft was pretty good, we got a Kaberle, we got a Kulemin. I like those guys but who gives a poop, other teams got a Seguin, a Rask. This is more like it. |

Maybe those other teams were wrong, most selections are wrong. Most of these picks the Leafs made will be wrong. |

My guess is that it might be because he has be evaluating talent all over the world for a long time. Then, he has drafted those players to the OHL level and has thusly been able to create a track record of those drafted juniors players moving on to get drafted and play at the NHL level.
Not sure what that record is but maybe one of the smarter guys on the site could take a look at that.
It might answer your question with some actual stats and knowledge....much better than my guess.
I took a shot at explaining at least. |
