And had what? 12 points in 50 KHL games? What the hell kind of statistic is that? Especially for a 20 year old. You don't waste practically a 1st rounder on a 5th rounder.

mens league, he then went down to JR and led the playoffs in scoring and to the cup

Leafs draft strategy:

get players that can directly be on Marlies next 1-2 years.
going forward, invest money in your best 4-6 FW (Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Kadri, ...?....) and best three D-men (Rielly, ... ?) and top goalie (Andersen).

Fill out rest of team with guys on contracts between 1-3.5mln max. (Komarov etc.).

Seems Leafs draft strategy indicates they will make quite a few moves next few days, including adding heavy salary in UFA or through trade (top D, Stamkos?).

Oh my God, quit your female doging. Have you ever seen or heard of any of these guys, especially Korshkov play? Quit the moaning and groaning, some of you guys are such whiners. These kids haven't played a single (frank)ing North American or AHL/NHL game yet
- Conquest

Korshkov was the 7th rated skated out of Europe , Gundstrom was 6th, Leafs have a plan. Korshkov is 6'4" and the 7th best skater in a group that has Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi in it. Wow! Should be a great pick, Hunter probably knew he would be gone by their next pick. Big skill guy on LW - love it!

Korshkov outscored Marner and Derbrincat etc at the WJC

Oh? I admittedly know very little about the guy. Wasnt on my radar at all. Seemed like a fishing type pick. Which I have no problem with in the later rounds, but I feel like the top two rounds should be all about the best player available.

Where are you getting 5th rounder from?

Korshkov is a big, rangy power winger. He uses his large frame to his advantage in protecting the puck, to create his own working space and also to punish his opponents in the corners. He still has plenty of room to add considerable mass and strength as he is quite wiry. He is very mo- bile on the ice and is able to apply good forechecking pressure deep in the zone. He has great poise and puck control with soft hands; he’s able to push defensemen back on their heels as he challenges them. Korshkov has superior vision that allows him to dish terrific passes, even while at high speed. He is a constant threat around the crease because of his reach and puck skill. His shot is very strong, but he does not use it enough. He has some defensive inconsistencies in his game as one shift he can work hard to separate his opposition from the puck, support his teammates as an option and win board battles, while other times, he looks disinterested in any play inside his own blueline. The big Russian has played a lot of hockey this season and he has done well at every level he has played. Whether it has been with Lokomotiv in the KHL or with their MHL junior team, at the World Juniors, or in other international events, he has made strong offensive contributions in every situation.

Led Russia to Silver 8pnts in 7 games, then in MHL 19 points in 15 games as the playoff's leading scorer, led Lokomotiv to an MHL championship.

Dont see what the problem is

He's going to be a 30 goal scorer in the NHL....Chicago got a steal, of course...it's always the same teams making smart moves. He should have been drafted in the 1st round, him just sitting there at #31 was a gift...and instead we pick some random dude that no one has ever heard of.
- ThePresident

Mark Hunter has heard of him.
Have you seen Korshkov play?
Otherwise best you defer judgement

And now another one.

Bobylov had huge swing from last year to this year. Maybe rough adjustment from Russia?

I don't mind this pick, scores and size and apparently some grit.

I'm kind of amazed there is nothing on this guy- very little info on the internet for a guy who scored .97 pts per game , his size. I found 4 fights of his- nothing to exciting- mostly draws. And that's about it.........Mystery man.

Again, unless you've seen him play, STFU. The other side of the coin is he's a kid who JUST entered a men's league and put up a handful of points after doing well on the international stage. He needs to prove himself but he needs that chance. As opposed to a midget scorer playing with other kids who also needs to prove that he can even take an NHL hit and not get knocked into oblivion

I thought Debrincat had a similar perception as Ho-Sang. Kind of a douche. I don't know if that's true, but if it is then that's why the Leafs didn't take him. They have said being a good person is paramount.

12 points in 41 games. 20 years old. Not worth a 31 overall pick. Other players with much more potential were still on the board. Potential top 6 forwards....instead they waste the pick on some guy that most likely won't make the NHL....and if he does, will be a 3rd line or 4th line player. Not understanding why we wouldn't take the best available.

7th ranked European.

Hunter & Co. spent a lot of this past season scouting Europe and Russia. They may seem like "random" picks but, unlike years past, I'm sure there is a lot of foresight and research into these picks.
