The Blackhawks will not be re-signing goalie Michael Leighton and he'll become a free agent on July 1, according to a source.

Hawks need...
- SimpleJack

Not a arguably the league's top scoring line, not three elite defencemen to surround, not a goalie, not a wily veteran wing who leads with his terrific away from the pick defensive play, not a leader / will to win elite centre...

I can name at very least 20 teams that don'y have those "parts."

Bubble team?

Every true Blackhawk fan should still be bubbling up with enthusiam because of what is still in place

OR
c) The bandwagon has a deflated tire with fan favorite Shaw being traded--- could be the hangover from the reality?

BTW I completely agree with you that the Hawks fans should always be excited when you have elite HOF talent in the lineup--- and 3 Cups in the bank--

that is the envy of every team === just ask them---

Wiz, your opinion on Libor Hajek?
- 93Joe

Aggressive mobile dee-man with decent skills and can move the puck offensively. Strong and thick-bodied. Plays with good intensity and awareness. Takes the body, pins/seals on the wall and wins puck battles. Has a long stick and is decisive when advancing the puck. His skating is high end; excellent in his stop/starts, and his first steps. Light on his edges and very aware of positioning in his end. A good passer and despite being new to the North American ice surface, has shown much to like in his first year.

That pick was brutal
A smurf that will never make the league

I was of the same ilk as you even after the rule changes until two seasons ago sitting three rows from the glass at the half boards and saw the 5' 8" Tyler Johnson come to play in that February game against the Hawks and he was one of the better players on the ice.

Blackhawks have a whopping 10 picks today: 39, 45, 50, 83, 95, 113, 143, 144, 173, 203.
- Marlowe

I know they got an extra 2017 6th round pick for the switch to 110 from 95, but still trying to figure out what 144 yielded from St. Louis...the trade was the hawks acquiring a 2017 St. Lous Blues 5th rounder.

The 144 pick was 8 from the end of the 5th round...so this tells me one or two of the following were true:

a) The hawks looked at their board and figured Denver U. Sophomore prospect (D Blake Hillman) was probably be there...or was a long term developmental "chance."

b) the Blackhawks staff think that 2017 is a thicker draft.

You want to know what a good day's work is for an NHL manager?

Kenny Holland frees up the money to sign Steven Stamkos, by sending Pavel Datsyuk's contract to Arizona to help them get to the Cap floor with the price being
(or we thought) a simple exchange of Detroit's #16 slot dropping down to slot #20...it gives Coyotes Jakob Chychrun and Detroit gets to draft a developmental defenseman, Dennis Cholowski , on his way to st. Cloud State.
Wait, there is more...
Holland also got the #53 overall compensatory pick which he used to select defense prospect Filip Hronek.

Two chances for a safe bet that Chychrun is at least a 2nd pair defender.

it's all in the details...
Detroit acquired this, the Arizona Coyotes' compensatory second-round pick (53rd overall) will go to the Detroit Red Wings as the result of a trade on June 24, 2016 that sent Pavel Datsyuk and a first-round pick in 2016 (16th overall) to Arizona in exchange for Joe Vitale, the Rangers' first-round pick in 2016 (20th overall) and this pick.[10]
Arizona previously received this pick as compensation for not signing 2014 first-round draft pick Conner Bleackley, whom they acquired in an earlier trade with Colorado.

Hopefully pick 45 is a kid above 5'10"
- 93Joe

He is by an inch...LOL

The position of defense has changed so much...if you can get it up out and up you are more valuable than a hulking slower to react big body.

Krys two strides and he is out of his end, temedously mobile, and a good passer, active stick, and shot blocker.

Nothing there on the Russian, is he that much of a pick out of left field?
- vabeachbear

http://www.draftsite.com/...ayer/artur-kayumov/25564/

Somehow the guy who was supposedly helping me with reassigning the slotting whe there were trades had the player profiles somehow going to empty files with their names on it.
Wanna look foolish?
Yesterday I mailed the links to Adam Kempenaar b/c in the past he used the ones he liked (the ones that were flattering) on the hawk site, more looks for Draftsite.com etc.
This morning I go to look over the site (Whose micromanaging owner usually is breathing down my neck checking re-checking and doing those sorts of slot changes, but he has a wedding all weekend, and assigns me his friend to "help.")
and I slide and onlt the picks up to 140 are showing.

That's not right I KNOW I changed displayed all yesterday...it turns out, "somehow" it got changed and when I look THE PLAYERS from 140 Rare no longer in there...and I just spend time fixing this)

Anyway go back to my outgoing mail and look and click on the links I sent the hawks Kempenaar and they are all blank too.
I am pretty sure he thinks i am 100% idiot as opposed to 25% now...

Wiz had the Hawks taking him in the 7th round
- hawkeytalkman

I figured no one else (I mean those that does this scouting stuff Future Considerations, ISS, Red Line, HF, etc.) even saw him.

It is not like Peters was a vacuum cleaner on his traveling Austrian farm team of Red Bull...he played one game for the Salzburg parent club.his etam was under -21 kids from around the world/ They played in the USA, Finland and Switerland tournaments and exhibitions. So they were globe trotting and not playing all that much in Czech republic or at home in Salzburg.

it is just that he is already 6 foot four and moves well side to side up and down a real athlete...
he needs to be brought over sent to the USHL where the hawks have goalie coach there twice a month with a critique for him.

Did they reach?
Maybe, but maybe they felt other clubs had scouts in the rinks there too.

It was clear that the better goalies in this draft were not all that big.
(2017 btw looks like the best goalie crop in years...)
Note my top 90 for next year's 2017 draft are up.
http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2017/
Ask Bob Mckenzie to ask his dozen scout fiends for theirs or Craig Button or Adam Kimelemn or Corey Prohman (boy would I love that job with ESPN, he waffles all year takes no real stands on the prospects and they PAY him!..at least this isn't like the year he was almost crying in defending his incorrect argument that Sasha Barkov "could not be considered a player on the same tier level as the big three, McKinnon, Drouin, & Jones...I guess Barkov took care of that one, since right now he seems the best and most productive so far...

I heard there were lots of different teams scouting Peeters in that Lillehammer tournament in April, and beside NHL scouts the Finn and Swedish teams were trying to sign him.

I think the hawks right or wrong go into the picks with conviction, no waffle.

Ok, now I have convinced myself that ALL of you are unable to get in here like I was unable the days before...
so I am just gonna last man on Earth it, continuing to send hockey messages out there.

So one on like page nine was suggesting this...

and then I started thinking, Mark McNeill was always what I called and anchor net front presense with the Prince Albert Raiders when the hawks drafted him, i figured back then, he was goona be the guy in front.
He's 23 and still wants to be hawk more than anything.
Maybe he gets a shot at the front of the net?

The Sharp trade was an 11th hour trade and would NOT have been THAT bad if we could have gotten use out of clearly useful players like Daley and Garbutt.

The subsequent trades to get rid of Daley and Garbutt had no logic to them at all and smacked of front office incompetence combined with coaching arrogance.

- kwolf68

In the first statement
gotten use out of may be the entirety of it.
Daley had like SIX assists? six points!
Garbutt (who I know is hated by officials and consisted one of the leagues dirtiest cheap shot players) never could finish and that was after he had a couple years before in Dallas, and also had six points, 2 goals four assists.(He also woke up for 5 more goals and 3 more assists with the Ducks.
Maybe Garbutt fit a role that was already filled on the hawks? His $900,00 wasn't the issue. But I ma fairly certain Daley's 2016-17 final year at 3.3 mil was...just look at the two subtractions plus Bickell.

In your second paragraph, it DID have logic...they wanted that cap space to go shopping at the deadline for the playoffs.

But here 's my question: each and every person they brought in from the Stars, to Sekac to the Hab players....

What parts of the additions' overall game by game week by week coaching staff evaluations were the reasons behind their lack of success?

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when they were discussing these players and how to proceed...including against the Blues in the playoffs.

(Maybe the biggest question is what leads you back to Rundblad in the playoffs? Obviously you aren't trying to kiss and make up, you are trying to win and you play him to add what he does do well.((See the Arizona Buzz blog and he can tell you his strengths)) Is there concern that Seabrook wass rerally close to not playing injured and he fills the up-ice handle dynamic as a feeble replacement IF Seabs can't go?)

To me it is naive to see that there were injuries tied to who was in the line-up.

I bet that Weise and Fleischmann got hurt had nagging injuries, as did a few hawks from the long season...

I am also willing to venture the coaching staff was overly patient with the first rounder Teravainen expecting more production, and continuing to BE patient with his post season spot provided less opportunities to try and fit the other additions...and come on let's face it...teams with one dominant line can be squelched in the playoffs, I am pretty sure the management/coaches KNOW that, but the team (the players) didn't manufacture enough goals from their looks.

I would love to know what the exact neagtives were on each and every departing trade part though...when does the satff say, Sekac , NO!, doesn't fit and why....
and Panik, sevicable fit stays...

Wouldn't you?
