Hawks to approach Jamie McGinn's agent on 7/1.

Out on Lucic, "unless there's a trade of (a larger contract player)" to make him affordable.

Also, for the first time I have heard that they will talk to Campbell's agent. But that will only get done if Campbell comes very cheap.

If they could land McGinn and Soupy while keeping Freddy that's not a bad situation. Hell...maybe just keep Panarin and wait till next year and if someone signs him to an offer sheet they could get a bunch of picks. I do like BreadMan, but it may be an option and after next year a mini-rebuild may be in order anyway.

Is the coaching staff in Rockford not up to par??
- z1990z

Eli would know best, but didn't they just lose the guy that was the most influential down there in Mark Oleiscki?

Not sure who else is there with Dent. I am not the biggest fan of Dent but I think all they want in RFD is a 'yes' man.

Awesome. Any word on Martin?
- ikeane

I think he'll get about $3 mil AAV, which will be out of the 'Hawks price range for a bottom-six player.

He's one of the better fourth line players in the NHL and he can contribute some (albeit slight) offense. He's also only 27 so he's probably going to get a nice pay-day from some team looking to improve their bottom-six.

There's no way he's taking any more $1 mil dollar deals.

Agree. Martin would be awesome in Chicago, but not happening jackson....Hawks really don't have the money, flexibility. They are just going to field who they can afford. Even the McGinn/Soupy talk is pie in the sky....it won't be hard to outbid Chicago.

At this stage, I would focus on McGinn and Soup. Lock in what you can and do it PDQ.

Include the no-pro-experienced Motte and Schmaltz in there.
- StLBravesFan

Bummer on Lucic. Figured he would be out of the 'Hawks price range but figured he'd be as an ideal fit as there is on that first line with Toews.

Not a big fan of McGinn unless it's in a bottom-six role. He'll also not be that cheap after having a career season. As a third-line winger I love him for the 'Hawks, but don't think he gets it done as a first line winger. But I guess we'll have to see what kind of deal he gets.

its hard work rounding out a team around a couple of high priced superstars.

you guys still have the hardest pieces locked up. theyre great players, and will make those around them better. its what they do.

but its about damn time you guys feel the squeeze a bit.

- stayinthefnnet

That's a joke ... right?

The Hawks have been salary cap squeezed since after the 1st Cup in 2010 when Ladd, Byfuglien and Versteeg (and others) had to be traded because of the Cap. Then Campbell and Brouwer the next season. Then Leddy, Sharp, Saad, Oduya, Richards and Frolik over the last few years and finally Shaw and Teravainen now. And those are just the highlighters, there's been quite a few bottom-6 role players that had to be replaced too.

McGinn ,Martin, Campbell, must have all 3 = a good summer,I think so, some one give alittle scoop on McGinn, don't know much about him.
Think the kid coming out of UND sees Rockford for a bit.
Surprised that Debrincat kid made it out of the 1st round.........but......we heard this before.......about........ Teuvo Terivainen!

Nitpicking, but can't they start talking on June 27, then start signing a n July 1?

McGinn - proven 20 goal scorer - coming of of a $3MM contract - nice to have, but I would think affordability would be an issue without another move.

Don't lose hope yet Tommy, like JJ ,who we all respect on this board, some others also have without getting into a resume piss up a rope contest "sources and in the knows".........workin like hell to "find" that space plus the president has his "interest" let's say for a better term, in on this one along with"the CAPTIAN " who wants a Bonified winger come October ,not some well lets try this for another season.

Time to start bargain shopping...but we're going to see some kids as well. Unless you move a big contract you're where you are now. I think Kempny and Soupy certainly give you an upgrade on the back end.

Its going to be interesting to see what they do here and who they can get cheap.

I saw a tweet that was pretty interesting. It said something about the Hawks only having 3 players, drafted by Stan, left, on the team, that have played a game for the Hawks (after the Shaw and TT trades).

The three are: McNeil, Hartman, and Hinostroza.

Stan took over in 2010 and there are only 3 guys he drafted left that have actually played with the big club? Thats some Jerry Angelo work right there!

Keyword is LEFT--- More of an indication of the cap casualty of the 'modern' NHL-- Surely they traded some players they didn't WANT to but HAD to--

Pagnotta :

Can confirm Kings, with limited cap space, are exploring market on top pending UFA forwards, reaching out to camps of Okposo, Ladd, Eriksson

Indirectly, Shaw's AAV is going to hurt the 'Hawks acquiring players.

Tells me how lucky we are to have those three cups in six seasons.

Stan did well with acquistions like JO, Zus, Vermette & Desi, though.
