The way the team is looking at this point we should have a nice top 10 pick in the draft next year - scott.jackson
Yeah, maybe.
The question is, do you want the same guy making the pick? |

I'd argue that on this day back when Sadd was drafted you didn't know you were getting him. I'm sure you can go back and find 50 posts that were killing the pick because he didn't live up to potential, was injury prone, etc. etc.
Hell, most on this board were killing the Hawks and McD for even playing him with the big club, said he was given it, didn't earn it.
Remember?????? - vabeachbear
Unfortunately I had not yet found this wonder called Hockeybuzz at that point in time! |

Include the no-pro-experienced Motte and Schmaltz in there. |

Still need to move millions in current cap hit to ice a WC competitive team. - blackhawk24
Based on what happend this weeked, gonna say the market to move say a CC is about dead. The only guy I see possibly moving at this point is Kruger and that only saves us 3 million. Not sure what happened with the Calgary/Crawford thing. Stan had to have known that moving CC was a possibility. You then speak with said CC and say well biz is biz. I need a list from you. If there is no market for CC, then Stan is possibly forced into moving another player in the 5 mill/year price bracket.
Hawks are in a bad spot now. Bettman is getting what he wants. A watered down 50/50 NHL. Bottom line is this.. Stan needs to do something to find money to retain Artemi Panarnin. MUST HANG ON TO #72!!

Guessing Stan will sign Martin, Schlemko, and Campbell. The rest of the roster is filled out from Rockford.
Maybe Pokka and Mcneill to oilers for yakupov |

I know Bowman has some say in who they draft, but you also have to rely on your scouts to choose the best player available for that pick.
I know this isn't going to be popular to this board, but I believe the CC being traded boat has long sailed. It might be time to look at some of the higher core and get out of this cap hell. If the Hawks don't do something drastic they are going to field teams like last year that aren't a cup caliber team and the core is getting older by the minute. I think one of the big 2 would bring us a lot of got young talent and would allow the Hawks to put together 4 decent lines. To much invested in two guys and it isn't going to get any easier for Stan going forward unless he pulls the trigger on a monster move |

Yep...he's small. The Hawks have some big boys in the system...Hayden, Calnan, Bondra, but they are still works in progress. However, I think all 3 are decent prospects |

The thing I need to ask is...if we're trading a high priced core guy to be replaced by Panarin being high priced, how do the Hawks come out ahead? Seems to me either Panarin is not a long term player in Chicago or another core guy is traded....even with that the role players are still bargain bin options. Just a very poorly constructed salary cap structure of this team. |

I still think the NYI is a possible trading partner. it seems like they want to make a cup run next year and could use his pedigree. Maybe take back Greiss at a cap hit of only $1.5m next season and a UFA after that, which frees up cap space to extend Panarin. |

TOR traded for Rychel, making JVR a little more expendable. Maybe Stan pulls a trick out of his sleeve. |

Hawks to approach Jamie McGinn's agent on 7/1.
Out on Lucic, "unless there's a trade of (a larger contract player)" to make him affordable.
Also, for the first time I have heard that they will talk to Campbell's agent. To this point, I have only heard of Campbell's interest in the Hawks. But that will only get done if Campbell comes very cheap. |

Guessing schlemko on a 1 year for 850k+1 year at 1.5 for soupy and 1.7 for martin for 3-4 years.
Thats about 4.2 for the three plus 2.5 for yak. 6.7 mil means a couple minor moves and no Ladd |

This is a bit trivial in the overall scheme of things, but I saw that the Hawks traded their 5th round pick this year to the Blues for their 5th round pick next year. What goes into the thinking behind such deals? Anybody have an inside scoop on this process? - 333inthe3rd
Just spitballing but I'd guess Blues called us about it, told us what they wanted to do and we didn't have anyone slotted that we definitely wanted anyhow. So said something like fine, you owe us one.
