Allison, Wade RW - Tri-City Storm (USHL) 6’02”, 205
HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 58

Wade has become somewhat of a late bloomer in this year’s draft class, after a pretty average Rookie season In the USHL last season, and fighting the injury bug early in the 15/16 season, Allison had really come on in the 2nd half of the season and became a key piece to Tri City’s Post Season run and was the Team West’s MVP of the USHL Top Prospects game in January.

Allison likes to play a physical Power Forward style that will go into any puck battle and plays with an edge and physicality that his teammates feed off of, create energy and can get under the opponents skin. Wade likes to drive the net and bang home dirty goals but also possesses a lethal shot that comes off his stick quickly. He likes to push the pace and come into the offensive zone with speed and drive straight to the net, he doesn’t like pulling up with the puck or trying to find the soft area’s to get a pass, even when that might be the play that’s warranted in that situation. On the fore check Allison is a pest, always finishing his checks and working to keep pucks alive and create turnovers. Allison doesn’t just work hard in the offensive zone; he battles in his own end and takes pride in blocking shots. Wade is a energy player who does all the little things well to help his team win but can also bring a level of skill and finishing ability. He will be off to Western Michigan next year where he will join a very talented recruiting class.

Quotable: “I always look for hockey sense and although he has good size and some great tools I just didn’t see the smarts on the ice I like to see, so thats a bigger stopper for me.” - HP Scout Mark Edwards

Hart, Carter G – Everett (WHL) 6’01”, 180
HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 43

It has been a big calendar year for Hart leading up to the draft as he managed an Ivan Hlinka gold medal, selections to the CHL Top Prospects game and the WHL/Russia series, and winning the Del Wilson trophy as the WHL’s best goaltender while playing all but 9 of his teams regular season games. High praise for a goalie that was selected in the eight round of the WHL bantam draft and who received very little offensive support playing behind the 2nd lowest scoring team in the WHL and lowest of any team to make the playoffs.

He plays a compact game that shows very few holes to shooters both under his arms and at the five hole. Lateral movement is very quick and he plants and changes directions in a fluid manner and moves from his knees to his feet in the butterfly as quick as any goalie in the league. Hart is very sound in his positioning, efficient in his movements, both quick and flexible. He has a natural ability to read the flow of play and remain square to shooters showing patience and not over reacting to the attack.

Fairly conservative by nature, he plays deep in his net and plants himself in the blue ice, although it would be more beneficial to challenge shooters and step outside the crease at times. This can lead to larger openings in the top of the net, something better shooters at pro levels will be able to take advantage of more so than in the WHL. Hart will need to work on swallowing rebounds better as pucks do seem to bounce off him with some pop, although he does use good angles to direct pucks away from the slot and into the corners to keep high quality secondary chances to a minimum.

Not the biggest frame by NHL goalie standards, Hart will need to bulk up to withstand the rigors of pro hockey but at 17 years old he likely hasn’t finished growing. Some will attribute his success to the heavily defensive system played in Everett, but structure is something he’ll find at pro levels as well, all in all Hart is one of the top goalie prospects for the 2016 draft.

I'd really like to see more picks described as an excellent skater. It's all about speed now and neither the 1st rounder or Allison prob fit that. Not sure about Laberge, maybe some of you do?

I'm good with the 2nd rounders, I think Hart is the best goalie and Laberge has a load of potential. I'm not as high on Allison, but he's not a bad pick at 52.

5th leading scorer in the Q is going 3rd round....wonder if Hexy (doesn't have to be for him), packages the Arz pick to move up in the 3rd with some real fallers lurking.

I really don't see how we needed another goalie prospect right now to take one that high. Not thrilled with the pick. Kid must have big time upside though.

So, we took two RWs in the 2nd. Interesting. Not a huge concern given that we have tons of guys who can play LW AND RW. It's an overstated concern. Hexy clearly ain't worried.
