Black Book had him as the 49th (?!) best prospect in the draft.

Yet, their scouting report was ripping him left and right.

His brother is a Rangers prospects. that could be fun one day

Makes perfect sense.

He's a big defender who is raw but has a lot of offensive skill. One of the top d men point getters in the Swedish U20s. It's an upside pick that's for sure.

Seems like another good boom or bust to me. Now trade a 2017 7th rounder and get Kuznetsov

Two way guys with questionable offensive ceilings? Is that really the story? I know next to nothing about these kids, not super into it as I find it overhyped but we shall see.

Defense first gameplay. Woo. Sigh.

simmonds, laughton, morin and a conditional 1st
- penguininnevada

Yzerman said he's open to a 8 year deal as a sign and trade so a crazy trade could definitely still go down. Highly unlikely it involves us though.

So the Flyers took 2 Swedish d men late who were huge scorers in their league. One of the youngest players in the draft.

There is NOTHING wrong with taking flyers on Swedish d men with skill late. It's a well that never runs dry.

Chicago keeps taking all these players I liked. They're having a good draft. Jake Ryczek, smaller RD from USHL, but extremely successful scorer. Took him in the 7th.

Chicago took DeBricat, Kayumov, Lucas Carlsson, Mathias From, Ty Ronning, Ryczek....all players on my list. Didn't reach on any of them either.

All for those big ceiling guys in later rounds. Overly Safe picks are dumb imo.

Seems it is a little less of this then at first glance but I think you are right in identifying that they didn't target big potential scoring forwards like many of us were hoping. I liked some of the picks and the trade with WPG. I also like the amount of forwards selected.

I'll give them a B overall due to the lack of high end boom or bust offensive oriented picks. One DeBrincat or Abramov would have satisfied me.

Yep, I have no problem with the boom or bust D men. It was the lack of high offensive ceilings for a forward that was a bit disappointing for me.

Hexy definitely had a plan today. he drafted a bunch of the same type of player. Two way guys with some size and projected offensive upside. You heard the term "three zone". "200 foot", gritty, tenacious, and "big" a LOT.

Im fine with this.

I still think they need find a top six sniper type. Maybe that's Konecny? But they definitely need to find a guy who can more consistently put pucks in the net at 5 on 5 over the next couple of years.

I don't think this will be one of the more memorable drafts for us but it should definitely bolster the farm system in a huge way.

Laberge and Allison could be solid goal scorers. Allison, probably moreso is the PWF/goal scorer mold. Laberge's stats can be deceptive, and he could afford to shoot more, but he actually has some sniper in him

A pretty common theme was good skaters that play a 200 foot game. The only guy they took that had some criticism from scouts about his skating was Laczynski. The only guy who was a real reach was Twarnyski. The guy they took in the 7th round has some promise, Berghardt.

I would have liked a bit more sizzle, but they got some good value early in Rubtsov, Laberge and Allison, plus Hart who is one of the best goalies in the class. All in all a good, solid draft class with some intriguing kids late.

If you had to give them a grade, what would it be?

Solid B. I really loved each of their last two drafts, and I only liked this one. Getting Laberge and Allison was nice in round two. I watched more stuff on Allison and asked a few more questions and think he's a really good pick at 52
