Dreger reported the Oilers are unlikely to get a deal for a Dman done today. Unfortunately.
- MaximumBone

Yeah I saw that too.. So basically we are going to either overpay for Demers or walk into camp like this. Slowly losing faith that teams are willing to deal us a dman and tripling the asking price when PC calls

This isn't the be all end all. The team has time, but most teams looking for forwards are still trying to be in on Stammer, Eriksson, or Lucic. They don't want to commit to another high price forward until they're out.

Fair enough, just getting impatient, its been 11 years since we picked up a #1 Dman.

How?

Bob McKenzie: No. 39
Craig Button: No. 44
Corey Pronman: No. 18
Black Book: No. 34
McKeens: No. 43
ISS: No. 55

He went within range.

Like I said maybe not a real "reach". The oil have been talking about Benson for a long time. I just mean that with some of the guys that dropped there were guys still on the board I'd have taken before. Doesn't really matter to me as I wasnt hung up on one name. I like the Neimalainen pick.

Should I go through a list of all the non-Gaudreaus? Cause there are hundreds, if not more. I don't completely disagree with you, but Benson isn't a reach where he was taken. Near PPG despite dealing with a groin issue and a back cyst (two non-chronic injuries)
- MaximumBone

Given our horrid draft history and luck with injuries drafting injury plagues players isn't my cup of tea. I hope I'm wrong.

Make it the username AND avatar. Hamonic can be added as well. I agree with the ambiguous D-men clarification. However, if a big trade were to happen with a top 2 that we didn't think would be traded or wasn't going to be "traded" ( like Shea Weber, Byfuglien, Barrie, etc ), I would be considered the winner. Remember, I win if a CORE player is sent in or invovled in a trade for one of the top 2 defenders mentioned or recognized as such. You win if no such trade happens.
- EdmHockeyMan

Done... Of course any elite d not mentioned would count

I still don't think Ebs alone or anyone not named Hall/RNH would get what you need but I'll bet anyway. I figure any of the other "core" pieces would end up being bundled together anyway

I'll be happy if you win in the end.. Oilers need to make something happen. I live in Edmonton and it's getting depressing for my friends who are fans

The list of available players has basically shrunk to nothing and there are still teams more motivated than us to not suck next year also looking for d-men.

Are we going to get stuck with Fowler?

That's fair, but if it means anything, Pitlick's injuries didn't surface prior to the draft.

I'd be fine with that. Then we could trade one of our LHD plus for a RHD.

I have a feeling we get stuck paying premium on a Jonas Brodin or Matt Dumba

Prospect Need to Know: Georgetown’s hidden gem

The Spotlight

Matthew Cairns, D – Georgetown Raiders (OJHL): The Ontario Jr. A League doesn’t produce a ton of NHL draft picks these days, but there’s always a couple good reps – such as Jake Walman or Jake Evans, in recent years. Cairns will be a flagbearer in 2016 thanks to his big frame (he’s 6-foot-2, 190 already) and great skating ability from the back end. His Raiders are in the league final and Cairns is tied for tops among OJHL defensemen with 14 points through 17 games.

Cairns actually won the title last year as a member of the Toronto Patriots, but was traded to Georgetown in the summer, a destination he was quite happy with.

“That was very exciting for me,” he said. “Playing in the OJHL, you hear about Georgetown being a premier place to play.”

The Patriots had an older defense corps, so Cairns is counted on much more in Georgetown. That can get him in trouble and scouts think he tries to do too much sometimes, but Cairns is aware of that.

“I get kinda carried away on the rush sometimes,” he said. “I have to learn to stay in my role.”

Cairns would also like to work on his D-zone coverage, but the offensive skills are impossible to ignore, which is why scouts are excited to see what he’ll do next season. He has done all he can in Jr. A and his plan for next season is to join Muskegon in the USHL. After that, he’s slated to attend Cornell.

“I’ve always been a good student and that has been a big part of my life,” Cairns said. “I wanted to get a world-class education and play hockey, as well.”

The Big Red will certainly give him that opportunity and by then, Cairns will likely be ready to make an impact as a freshman. He has definitely had that effect on the Raiders.

At least he's known for offense.

Im happy that most of our picks have size. Im so over picking small skilled forwards. Time to get heavy.
