What a night! Amazing to see things go well for so many teams (Edmonton, Calgary) and others fall on their swords simply due to poor management (looking at you Vancouver).

The Oilers prove they don't need to have 1st overall to steal the show at the draft
(Seriously though, you lucky ducks!!) Your forward core is an embarrassment of riches. When does Chia make a move to shore up the defence? After getting Pulj last night I could see you trading forwards for 2 top four D. Fowler? Shatty?

To that I would counter with Nurse, Drai or Puljujarvi, and our 1st in 17. For Pietro, a 3rd in 16, and Brouwers rights.

I think it makes more sense for the Blues to just hang on to Pietro then. Not saying what is and isn't fair; but trading Pietro closes Blues current window and pins a lot of hope on the development of Parayko. Worth it to for sure add 3 guys to the young core. Not worth it to add 2 and a pick that could end up being anywhere.

Fair enough. Figured it is enough as it frees up the space to resign Shatty and possibly Backes (if they want to), gives them a player who could potentially replace Pietro at possibly an equal level in 2 years at a more controlable price while still having J-Bo, Parayko, and Shatty, adds a top tier level top 6, and a 1st. For an elite all around dman, a 50/50 in a 2nd, and a player they plan on losing anywas. To me it's a little bit of an overpay from EDM but can understand why it could be rejected.

So what's next for the Oil? Same plan as last year? The year before? The year before that? "I think we can score enough goals to get into the playoffs"

In all seriousness, they struck gold again... good for them.

I think Chiarelli will finally shake up the team a little bit this summer... I think Eberle, Yakupov, and RNH might all be gone by the end of it.

Benson looks like a solid pick. I'd be lying if I didn't feel shades of Pitlick, though.

Damn, DeAngelo would've been a good pickup.

How is that even close to Moroz? Near PPG player ranked in the top-10 early season, dropped because of injury, and super competitive. More like Saad.

Nice pick with Benson.

Meh. I just knew we'd pick him. Seems to be a bit of a reach. Maybe not a reach but there were others I'd prefer. Glad we didn't go Rasmus. Word is his attitude stinks. He belongs in Buffalo with the rest if their misfits.

How?

Bob McKenzie: No. 39
Craig Button: No. 44
Corey Pronman: No. 18
Black Book: No. 34
McKeens: No. 43
ISS: No. 55

He went within range.

Alex DeBrincat or Carter Hart would have been better picks here.

I love the Benson pick. Would of been a 1st rounder if not for injury

DeBrincat would've been a more productive pick but size concerns are still valid. Goalies are near impossible to project. One drafted in the 6th round could just as easily outperform one taken in the 2nd.

Johnny Gaudreau says "sup"

I still think Oiler fans leave the draft on a sour note without a Dman..

For my money the Coyotes and Oilers are having the best draft weekend.

Dreger reported the Oilers are unlikely to get a deal for a Dman done today. Unfortunately.

Should I go through a list of all the non-Gaudreaus? Cause there are hundreds, if not more. I don't completely disagree with you, but Benson isn't a reach where he was taken. Near PPG despite dealing with a groin issue and a back cyst (two non-chronic injuries)

JP was a huge huge pick for us. Opens up alot of options now. I also think the Flames have had a great draft too.
