Despite Oilers getting Puljujarvi, they still are losers for not addressing the only thing they needed.

12mill per to Montreal and 9mill per back to Edm. I'm sure they can work something out. It's not as if the cap hit difference is massive (Like 6-9mill diff.). Both teams have the cap space to pull the trigger.

Nonetheless, if I were Montreal, PK is a player you build around. Bergevin would be facing a riot if PK was traded. However, if a certain team overpays, at that point you gotta look at market value and how that trade would pay off in year x, y, and eventually z.

You guys need a top 2 dman in reality.... Top 4 could include alot of garbage.... I mean Fayne and Nikitin were considered bringing in top 4 guys and we all saw how that worked out.

How about making it more concrete that you'd be trading one of the cores of RNH, Hall, Draisaitl or 4th overall (Puljujarvi cause really this pick should have been in play). I don't count Eberle cause I don't think he gets you a top dman alone, so it'll have to include someone else significant with Ebs like a Nurse

If you wish, Pulj can be involved as well, but honestly I don't think he will be traded so that won't affect the deal.

As for Top 2 or higher, other than Trouba, Shattenkirk, and Subban, who else joins that list? Maybe Dumba (could be considered a top 4, but he has what it takes to be a top 2 imo)? Myers? Brodin? Faulk? Name a few?

I didn't realize the trade line was today. If you watched Chiarelli get interviewed at the end he said they almost made a move but when Poo landed on his lap he couldn't follow through with the deal. Plenty of time to address the point in the following days.

However, if a big trade were to happen with a top 2 that we didn't think would be traded or wasn't going to be "traded" ( like Shea Weber, Byfuglien, Barrie, etc ), I would be considered the winner. Remember, I win if a CORE player is sent in or invovled in a trade for one of the top 2 defenders mentioned or recognized as such. You win if no such trade happens.

His 9 mill cap hit per year will definitely sting, but imagining 6+ years of having an elite RHD defender definitely clears any doubt.

A defense with Subban, Klefbom, Nurse, and Sekera in 1-2 years (once Nurse fully develops) would be amazing.

Plus, he would be a massive splash for Edmonton, along with a needed change defensively. Personally, I think him and Nurse would form great chemistry. Both have personality, leadership, and great skill, but of course Subban is the better player (no hard feeling for nurse ).

Like I said, respect his offensive talent, but I don't want him. Puts himself out of position trying for the big hit. Too many run-in with teammates. Not great in his own zone. Yes he would easily be our #1 immediately but he has too many red flags for my liking.

That trend holds true previous years as well. The majority of offseason trading will be complete 24 hours from now. If Oilers haven't traded for a defenseman within a week, they are unlikely to do so this offseason. Everyone with free cap space is about to spend it. Everyone looking to open up cap space is about to have their reason for doing so disappear.

Oilers still have time to do something. But not much.

High upside. Great talent. But being a d he is likely at least 2-3 years away from being a major contributor. Look at Nurse. 2 years already and I wouldn't call him much of a contributor yet. Still shows signs, has all the skill and potential to be something special, may have been stunted by being brought up full time this year, but he's not there yet.
