It's good to finally have a goalie under contract. A cheap cap hit at that. But I really hate the trading of the 35Th overall. If you don't draft Hunter Smiths, there's some really good players at that range.
I'm happy we didn't eat an ugly Bob type contract, but I'm thinking they should have waited until after the draft. - JimmyBeem
I think it's worth it... Plus we still have 2 second round picks |

I prefer Elliott to Reimer but I really wanted Fleury or Bishop but not at the cost of Tkachuk. Now we still will need a goalie in a year so who knows, we may still get Bishop or MAF next year. |

Zona moved 4 spots, so not outrageous to think JC could last... for Detroit to move that contract, free up all of the cap space, move back just 4 spots and get a 2nd... unreal |

It's a starting goaltender that only costs 2.5mil for 1 year Then they can reassess what they want to do. An a year to get more development on Gilles
Come trade deadline it could get interesting with goalies out there as the expansion draft approaches.
It also give them more flexibility this year with the cap. I still think they need to get Widman, Raymond, or Bouma's money off the cap. But now they are more able to take a real run at a Lucic or Okposo. |

Eff ya for getting Tkachuk and Elliot....MAF has worse career #'s than Elliot so glad that didn't happen. Now a top 6 RW would top off this summer for the Flames. GFG!! |

If the Flames could deal for Gauthier, do you see a fit? |

Can't complain at all. Give the Flames a year longer to look at Gillies.
How pissed are CBJ and Van fans right now?
Let me check! |

2nd rounders are 50/50 to play in the NHL
Starting goalie that had some of the best numbers in recent years and was awesome during the playoffs. Plus saves cap space
thats a deal you take 10 times out of 10 |

They are pretty pissed about it. But they think Lucic is guaranteed to be their target now |

Would like to see BT use 1 of those 2nds on Carter Hart. Looks solid in net for Everrett. Don't know much about the others but Watched Hart this year. Wouldnt surprise me what so ever |

Was anyone else counting on Jim Benning pulling a dumb-dumb and leaving Tkachuk on the board? |

Can someone remind me of some of the trade offers we were suggesting to move up to #4 to get Matthew Tkachuk?
I was getting so used to accepting we'd be drafting Alex Nylander I'm still in shock right now - cpltanto
I mean trade proposals.... I recall them being pretty ridiculous...and now we get Tkachuk for free lol
funny how the draft works...moving up a few spots almost never makes sense at the top....you would think the Canucks could have traded down a few spots for Juolevi too.... |

My Canucks friends are approaching riot level anger over the draft choice - ScotsonFire
That was a parade gone wrong. Once you get south of Kamloops, the retard level goes waaaay up in this province |

Anyone think Vanek is worth a 1 year offer , just to fill an immediate need, and buy a year of development for Shinkaruk, Porier, tkachuk, etc. |

The O-G's G.F.Y. FRIDAY DRAFT DAY NOTES
- If the Flames trade Hamilton it's because they think Fat Rass can play in the top 4.
- The Flames will get a starting tendy but the first round pick isn't going to be involved.
- After thinking about it......Benning probably will take Sergachev.
- Maybe the Coil want Juolevi?
- So maybe the Flames can get Dubois or Tkachuck? OR BOTH?!
Look out Eklund.......I'm coming for ya!!!!!! |

What a night....couldn't be happier, aside from the Oilers getting Poo-larva, then again...Poo....Coil....perfect fit!
All joking aside couldn't have been a better night for the Flames. Sure, would have been nice to get Bishop but this is the smartest move for the team. Buys some time and some $$$ to sort things out. As Dal said, trading for Elliot lets the Flames evaluate their goalie prospects and now they can also check the market for tenders come expansion draft time.
Tkachuk....wow....couldn't have been a better fit for this team IMO. If he has chemistry with Bennett then look out, the Flames are going to have 2 great top lines. Pour one out for Treliving tonight....and Clyde too!!!

Who else screamed "NOOOO!" Or out loud when Benning said "Vancouver selects, from the London Knights,...". And then became extremely happy once you realized he then said "Olli Jule I" ? |
|
|
|
FYI :
I didn't actually scream "NOOO!" During the Vancouver pick, but this is supposed to be a family site , so I paraphrased a bit. |
