Hiller is godawful in his current state, and except for flashes, has been since he got vertigo. Anyone saying this isn't a significant upgrade didn't watch him flop around all year. - FLflames34
Elliot isnt a significant upgrade, I watch alot of Calgary hockey (I love Johnny Hockey) and Hiller wasn't good for you guys thats true, but you needed a goalie who can steal some games and really hold the fort, Ellliot is not that type of goalie. |

What if the flames got Elliot, to flip to the Pens in a trade? |

Does it seem strange that Ray would let a team jump in front of him for a 3rd rounder? - madmike71
I thought that was a smart move, the obviously didn't want that player, moved down a spot and got an extra pick |

I did. Nothing like his earlier years. But still think Eliot is not exactly the best you could get and you really need a good goalie. |

Well, guessing we'll see Fleury as 1A and Murray as 1B to start the season. Probably Fleury getting the more important starts.
Don't foresee Fleury being traded at the draft at this point. Guess we'll have to wait till tomorrow for our picks. |

Obviously he played Ottawa in saying another team was interested in Brown and would have traded the pick to that team. Classic Shero move. |

Really, over the worst goaltending in the league? .925 sv pct since 2011, and keep the 6, it is perfect - FLflames34
I'm not sure Elliot is the right guy to get Calgary into the playoffs. He's a 31 year old goalie who has never had a 30 win season |

They wont be world beaters, they just need to get used to being a playoff team for the kids' development, ie oppo Edmonton. As such, he can do that. In 2-3 when JG Money Bennett Tkachuk are hitting their stride the hope is Gillies will be ready to put them over. |

I guess I'm the only one who got your back. Calgary fans know how bad Hiller has been. Seems like not too many people here saw Jonas Hiller play last year. He was an abortion. Significant upgrade ... yes. Is it good enough to get you in the play-offs? That is to be determined. |

I'd call that wishful thinking haha. I'd want a pick and top prospect. Elliott, 2nd, and top prospect seems highly unlikely at this point.
Actually haven't heard a peep on Twitter about any movement involving the Pens. Usually we get a play by play of all the people JR is talking to.
Dallas or bust at this point. |

Fleury would have been nice. I do wonder if he refused to waive though. I got to think JR came down on his asking price slightly. |

And Calgary wasn't going to bow over and overspend on our backup, nor should they have. 6th overall pick was totally delusional to think. I'm not even sure JR even has talked to Fleury about the possibility of being moved, hence the dumb response. Was Elliott the best possibility? No, but our GM didn't help the cause by asking for an obscene return for a guy that isn't worth that.

Usually you can extract more pain out of a team for a move like that. Two big centers were available, how did he know which one the Sens would take? I guess Ray was comfortable with several players still on the board, but it seems like the Sens got the higher rated player.

I'm not even sure JR asked Fleury his thoughts about the possibility of being moved considering what Murray has done and the way he has performed, or he feels compelled to keep a fan favorite. Our loss. |

Yakupov seems like a certainty to be moved, imo. They just drafted another RW. Seems like a day 2 kind of trade though for whoever it is. |

You need to start competing in the Pacific because Edmonton is probably going to get the pieces they need to start taking over that division. Your division is weaker next year, I think the California teams are falling back (too slow) but if you dont start winning losing become infectious.
You have to keep up with your Alberta rivals or else you're no better than a bunch of dirty filthy Philadelphia Flyers. |

Do we even know that was true though? I mean the original source of the rumored 6th overall was some turd from the Calgary Sun. Perhaps JR never asked for that to begin with. |

The most likely scenario is Fleury didnt want to go there. |

Two years ago, despite the stats, calgary was a competent team on the raise. Last year, it had many of the same pieces, but was an abortion. I look at it sort of like Francisco Liriano on the mound. Looks dominant because people chased balls all the time. Now that people have figure him out, he sucks.
Still think Calgary is ahead of Edmonton. I would take Elliott over Talbot; Calgary's defense over Edmonton's (hell, I would take some AHL teams D over Edmonton's) and they have some good forwards too boot. It all depends on how they adjust to the new coach. |

Would be interesting to hear what (if anything) was offered from Calgary and/or Pens and how close or far away they were from a deal.

We have heard this from Edmonton the last three years and yet no moves - absent Perron to Pittsburgh really. I will believe it when I see it.

As a team, Calgary was an abortion. No typo. That is why they picked where they did. They weren't good.
