Good deal for the Flames. We could have gotten 35 for MAF, but no ... JR wanted the 6th. - Oneonta Penguin
Really, it is a 2nd and a 3rd. Most of us asked for 2 2nd's. So it isn't that much more than we all asked for MAF. |

Why? They got a great player at 6 and then got a good upgrade (let's be real ... Elliott is a pretty good upgrade from the crap they had) for an early second. - Oneonta Penguin
He is better but only slightly. Flames will still miss playoffs with Eliot |

35th overall... We could have gotten a bit more for MAF. Dammit JR. - Victoro311
Food for thought ... Elliott has a cap hit at 2.5 million for one more year, then a ufa. I don't think MAF was worth more to be honest. It all depends on how they view Gillies. If he is close to being ready, although he missed most of the AHL season ... one year of Elliott is a stop gap to him. |

If they resign Elliott. Time will tell if they do.

They may still not make the playoffs, but Elliott is more than a slight upgrade. Their goalie situation was garbage. Elliott is at least competent.

Ha ha the Flames are retarded. Cheaped out and got a backup that they are going to expect to handle starters minutes. Elliot is no better than Hillerwas when they got him before they destroyed him. What a crew of idiots. |

Blues will also get a conditional third-round pick in 2018 if the Flames can re-sign Brian Elliott - mmonana120
I'd have been happy getting #35 as the main piece in a Fleury trade. Clearly either Rutherford doesn't want to move him or Fleury didn't want to waive to play there. |

I agree with your previous post that Elliott maybe a one year stop gap but I think they will resign him to least be a back up for a year or two for the kid.
If the kid is good, he will over take Elliot this year and Elliot will be a cheap FA.
If kid struggles, Flames will want a veteran in case young kid flames out. Pun intended.
So I say 70-30 Elliot signs. |

I think everything that Calgary fans have said is that Gillies is at least two years away and you know how goalies can take a while to develop (Murray was an anomaly).
I think Fleury was worth more than that but can't blame the Flames for going the cheaper route (to acquire and on the cap).
Dallas the only chance left for any Fleury movement tonight, imo. |

Fluery for Rattie??? - kfinl170
Nah. Don't see St. Louis going after a big name goalie. |

No he isnt, Hiller has a much better career than Elliot. - stackthepads
Not if you look at their respective career numbers. Funny, Elliott has a career gaa of 2.40; Hiller, 2.55. Both with a .914 save percentage. I really think people need to truly look at the numbers between Hiller and Elliott before a comment like this is made. JMO. |

I would have liked fleury but if the price was too high than this works for me
And a 2.5 cap hit ? Even better |

Really, over the worst goaltending in the league? .925 sv pct since 2011, and keep the 6, it is perfect |

We are only a week or so removed from winning the Cup... I imagine with the celebration and the draft this weekend that Fluery hasn't necessarily figured out if he wants to go or stay... Therefore Ole Man Ruth couldn't move him... It sure does match what JR has said publicly too... |

Yeah I really liked Elliott as a backup option IF we traded Fleury. I don't think Calgary made the best choice given the goaltending talent available right now. |

Good luck, it was a pleasure talking to you guys. I agree that MAF would have been the preferred trade but it was not to be. I believe eventually Fluery will regret not going there. |

Elliot played for a very good Ottawa team and wasn't good, then he made his was to St Louis playing is one of the NHLs best defensive systems combined with some of the leagues best defenders.
Hiller played on a mediocre Anaheim team and was amazing, he was also amazing for the Swiss in international tournaments.
Hiller was always a better goalie than Elliot, he may still be a better goalie than Elliot. You're just pissed that we didnt throw Fleury away for nothing that you're happy making up nonsense to support it. |

Hiller is godawful in his current state, and except for flashes, has been since he got vertigo. Anyone saying this isn't a significant upgrade didn't watch him flop around all year. |

It's a business, though. I feel like Fleury may have been thinking about this potential situation as he sat on the bench for weeks. I definitely see where you're coming from.
IF JR had committed that trading Fleury is in the best interest for the team, well sorry not sorry Fleury. |

Current Brian Elliott is likely better than than current Hiller. But I wouldn't exactly say you've turned a weakness into a strength. More like turned a weakness into slightly below average. |

Does it seem strange that Ray would let a team jump in front of him for a 3rd rounder? |
