Wilson doesn't replace Fehr. IMO, you truly fail to see Fehr's value with your "difference maker" comment. Not everyone is going to be a difference maker. Versatile player ... solid penalty killer ... will have a better year in 2016-17 since he won't be coming into the season off surgery.
- Oneonta Penguin

I didn't say he didn't have value. By "difference maker" I'm referring to difficulty to replace. I like Eric Fehr. But is value having a 2 million dollar 4th liner/PK guy that can slide up and down lineup when asked or a 2.5 million dollar guy, who could possibly be a 35 goal scoring winger?

My point is, you can replace a Fehr easier than finding a true top 6 winger.

Fehr showed his value in the final series. I thought he was one of our best players the last two games. Huge penalty kills for us. He's not flashy but he doesn't make mistakes.

Organization Goalie depth chart for the Penguins:
1A. Fluery- Top 10 goalie
1B. Murray- Top 10 goalie potential, top 15 currently.
2. Jarry- A-/B+ goalie prospect
3. Gustavsson- A prospect
4. DeSmith- B prospect

I'd say the Pens have the best in the league...

Sean Maguire played well for BU, helped them to a Hockey East championship. I have no idea where you slot him in but I think you need to include him.

Not super surprised. Qualifying him made no sense in a world where we didn't trade Fleury. So long Bennett. The fact we live in a world wjer you went ahead of Kuznetsov will always blow my mind.

Yeah Fehr played really well. I think he's pretty interchangeable with guys like Sundqvist and Kuhnhackl but Fehr has added value in versatility and better capability to step up if a guy like Bonino got hurt.

Yeah, I agree. Nasty and physical is fine but we just won a cup based on speed and skill. We finally have an identity and I expected our drafting to fit our system better. We could all be proven wrong but spending valuable picks on guys that project as bottom 6 forwards and bottom pairing defenseman is hard to get excited about.
- YouMeAndDupuis9

We also won with Ben Lovejoy as our 4th defenseman. If he becomes a physical 3rd pairing defenseman who kills penalties and is a righty then it will be a good pick. No idea if he does.

Buffalo just got a steal with its 4th round pick, Brett Murray, a PSU verbal from Carleton Place.

I think dallas just decided to cut bait on him. campbell was a bust. Only way is if Pittsburgh takes Niemi back and if so, Dallas needs to pay for that with other asset(s). Don't think Campbell impacts Fleury going there.

And the guys the Penguins have do have in the pipeline are mostly smaller puck movers, like Bengtsson, Prow and Taylor.

Also if Fleury is traded there is a very real possibility the Vegas takes Jarry as their third goalie. I can envision us losing two goalies in the next year.
- Thunderbolt

Jarry won't be eligible for the Expansion draft

FFS - Can people at least learn the criteria BEFORE they constantly post??

With BB gone Pens have 12f , 6d, and 2g signed for next season with ~3.6mil in cap space available. (Scuderi retention included)

I hear you and I partially agree with you. I think thats a good 4th or 5th round pick. But with few top end draft choices, I'd rather go for a higher upside. There are plenty of ways to get a 3rd pairing defenseman or bottom 6 forward. I'd rather go for boom or bust high end potential than safe picks that are easy to pick up.

Sounds like JR is resolute that MAF is staying. At least to start the season with the Pens.

Elliotte Friedman just reported that Fluery will NOT be traded this off season and will begin the year in Pittsburgh... NHL Network Draft

Yep, major mistake by our GM. Absolutely foolish. So, we will be inactive on the FA market. He might have just pulled all the right moves for us to win the Cup recently, but this is a new year and its starting off poorly from a decision making standpoint.

I don't think it's ideal but I also can understand that decision. The reality is we don't need much in Free Agency and there really isn't much that is desirable. I'm fine with a quiet off season.

Well, as we talked about yesterday, it takes 3 entities to make a deal. MAF, Pens and a buyer. It's quite possible MAF isn't "on board" with a move and/or there aren't any buyers. It's not all on Ruth.
