The same goes for Sprong then, he won't protected? - Thunderbolt
He doesn't need protection either. |

Of the players still available at 55 and 61 who would guys on here have taken...it's your chance to be a armchair GM - willi
at 61 - Will Bitten, or Cliff Pu.

Took a Dman from Kitchener with the pick from NJ.
Have no idea if he is worth a crap or not.

Edit ... from the hockey news ... "shutdown D-man with edge made huge strides as a rookie"
6-2, 192. - Oneonta Penguin
Interesting. Reports there were still a few solid puck moving D available. 'Shutdown' D-man is fine as long as its not just a nice way of saying 'Rob Scuderi'. |

Why deal Fehr? He isn't a problem. - Oneonta Penguin
I like Fehr. I think he was an underrated contributor for us in the playoffs. Real nice PK'r. Plus if Cullen doesn't come back, he's center depth. And we all know we need center depth. |

I thought it was players that have two years pro (AHL or NHL) need protected. Always thought Sprong's injury that will negate him from playing in the AHL for the most part, helped us.

Sprong also wouldn't need to be protected. Basically anyone who was an AHL or NHL rookie is exempt. Think Jarry and Sprong were our only 2 interesting ones. |

People bag on Fehr all the time, but don't see his versatility and other positive values. He isn't the problem. |

He isn't a problem. He also isn't a difference maker either. Could slide in Wilson IMO. I really do think the Yakapov could fit in with this group, just like Hagelin did. |

All 1st and 2nd year players are automatically protected. |

I like him too... He's good on the dot, has a huge wingspan that is huge on the PK, and can play in the top 6 in a pinch. He's well worth keeping. |

I don't know why people want to trade Fehr, he is signed at a good price and is a good player. To think he is just a dump baffles me. I would rather dump Kuntiz and that cap hit, before Fehr. - Thorny
If Cullen doesn't return can't trade Fehr. |

I'd like to keep Fehr too, but he is a possible cap dump and unlike Fleury and Kunitz I don't think he has NTC protection. If dumping him opened up the cap space to sign Schultz I would. Other than Kunitz, there really isn't a bad contract to dump. |

Wilson doesn't replace Fehr. IMO, you truly fail to see Fehr's value with your "difference maker" comment. Not everyone is going to be a difference maker. Versatile player ... solid penalty killer ... will have a better year in 2016-17 since he won't be coming into the season off surgery. |

If a late 2nd turns into rob scuderi then it's a great pick. Scuderi was bad in his late 30's but everyone loved him before then. Elite 3rd pairing shutdown type |

It was my understanding that, players with 2 years or less are auto protected. Like was stated, the draft happens before the new calendar year is flipped, so Jarry and Sprong would not need to be protected, they would still be at 2 years. |

Organization Goalie depth chart for the Penguins:
1A. Fluery- Top 10 goalie
1B. Murray- Top 10 goalie potential, top 15 currently.
2. Jarry- A-/B+ goalie prospect
3. Gustavsson- A prospect
4. DeSmith- B prospect
I'd say the Pens have the best in the league... |

I agree, outside of Kunitz, I think every contract for the Pens is good value. I would question Malkins, just because of often he is injured. We have a long way to go before the season starts and the deadline, I trust the FO will do what it needs to do. |

wtf...does not sound like the direction of the Penguins
Pens Inside Scoop
@PensInsideScoop
Hall has decent mobility and footwork. But isn't going to push the pace or join the rush. More stay-at-home, tough, physical, nasty Dman |

NJ should be a nice fit for Beau. If he actually can manage to stay healthy, not a lot of top 6 talent blocking him. Time for a change here though.
Nothing wrong with getting a high end goalie. It took Murray 4 years and he had a meteoric rise the last 2. Just getting best player available. I'm not going to read more into it. Never like reaching for guys like they did with their next 2 picks, but I'd be lying if I said I knew anything about anyone available. |

Our later second round pick and third round pick don't seem to fit what we do. Not that impressed. Like the comment he is nasty and physical. We need some of those, since Opik is gone and we really don't have one like him. |

I do think there might be a little market for Kunitz once teams spend their UFA money. Only one year left and had a decent playoff. But I don't expect him to waive his NTC so it would have to be a team on his list. Without any other move, I think they can spend around 2M on a defenseman and that's it. |

Yeah, I agree. Nasty and physical is fine but we just won a cup based on speed and skill. We finally have an identity and I expected our drafting to fit our system better. We could all be proven wrong but spending valuable picks on guys that project as bottom 6 forwards and bottom pairing defenseman is hard to get excited about. |
