Not entirely true. He was only in the Echl for a short time after finishing college.

Played three years at UNH and according to hockeybd, didn't play 14-15 season. Played 13 games in ECHL this past year. Something isn't right with this.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe not liking Jarry's trajectory.
- madmike71

I don't think they were down on Jarry. With MAFs status up in the air, I think they were saving Jarry in case something happened to Murray. If Murray went down with injury, I think Jarry would have taken over playoff run long term, not Zatkoff.

Wasn't Jarry with the Pens also when the WB playoffs started?

When Fleury and Murray started the post season injured? When Zatkoff was our starter for the games one and two versus the Rags.

Reaching for a player that wasn't a positional need. Known as a bottom 6 forward and penalty killer. Can't say I like this.

At No. 61, PIT takes Kasper Bjorkqvist, who was ranked No. 79 on TSN list. Second round (61 players) is now complete.

edit: other scouting service had him ranked 180th overall

Pittsburgh has gone off the grid entirely with the second pick. Not impressed with our scouting department thus far.

He is herald as the next Lundqvist back in sweden but still don't get why they would pick a goalie. He will probably be a really elite goalie in the future

maybe,,, thats why? Elite? Trade...

Very mixed on Gustavson pick. Value is no doubt the absolute best we could do. But creates a huge logjam in our system.

I wander if Rutherford has a blockbuster Murray trade in the works. Got an offer he liked for Murray. Didn't want to pull the trigger but now that he has two franchise goalies in development reconsiders an offer he had for Murray.

Smith had a remarkable run and they rode the hot goalie... If my memory serves me right.

Also if Fleury is traded there is a very real possibility the Vegas takes Jarry as their third goalie. I can envision us losing two goalies in the next year.

If flames were serious about the 6th pick for Murray. I'm pulling the trigger on it now.

Elliot + tkachuck would be fantastic

WBS signed him in mid december to a PTO and placed him in Wheeling to get playing time being that Jarry and Murray were in WBS. He was coming off an injury I believe. Murray went up, WBS was comfy with how he performed and brought him up to sit behind Jarry. Jarry started getting into trouble, they threw DeSmith in and he went 6-0 at the end of the season then like Murray in Pitt, WBS rode with the hot hand.

Its pretty similar to the MAF/Murray situation in Pitt. DeSmith wasn't an ECHL scrub is all I'm saying.

Jarry is certainly a guy that is on our potential pick list. Along with hornqvist and pouliot. I don't see them target one of our wbs 5 forwards. They are neither true top 6 early face of franchise type or high potential prospect. Jarry fits that.

Dude, you have been banging the deal Murray train for a while. LOL that Calgary is giving up Elliott and Tkachuck. Where you come up with JR must have a major deal for Murray with the selection of a Swedish goalie is beyond me.

I guess my opinion on this pick - It's better to get a player that turns into something than a missed pick. We could have selected the 30th ranked center in the draft or the #1 goalie.

Phoenix is stockpiling Dmen as well ... Chychrun, acquired DeAngelo and just got Dineen in the third round.

A serious question for you all... Jason Botterill has been groomed to be the next GM... With expansion and LV wanting to talk to him, when do you anticipate a change in the front office? I'd like to see JR hang them up and ride off in the sunset this summer but I feel like he's going to pull a JoePa and hang on too long... Y'alls thoughts?

Goalie situation across the league could get quite dicey. Bishop will either be a UFA or moved, Elliott and Anderson are already traded. It looks like a lot of teams are ensuring they are not going to expose an NHL ready 'tender.

While executed poorly, at least defenseman in theory have high trade value. I just don't get it.

Bjorkqvist seems like quite the mixed bag from scouts:

Bjorkqvist ended up being ranked 22nd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting after being 35th on the midterm list. Hockey Prospectus just ranked Bjorkqvist 116th overall. The Draft Analyst has him ranked all the way down at 218th overall.
