Kuhnhackl and the later 2nd for Yakupov - YouMeAndDupuis9
Trade kuni for a 3rd and flip the 3rd for yak..
Clear cap and get a skilled winger in the process...I don't know how Kuhn elevated his game but I like what I see and want him on the 4th line and pk |

Guys what do you thnk about Michael Grabner. He is UFA, he is speedy, low cap prolly.. (was 3 mil, now UFA)? |
|
|
|
Fwiw I trust Rutherford on the fleury front. The guy knows how to get deals done and balance risks.
He's overpaid a few times - staal/lovejoy. Though I forget staal situation somewhat. Were we willing to keep staal for one more year and lose him for nothing? So maybe he had to pay up to get his guy before he was ufa and a year earlier.
But he knew how to push the buttons to get the kessel trade done while giving up nothing important and getting the cap relief we needed.
Also moved scuderi for something of value. Hagelin trade was less impressive as it was basically a risky salary dump by Anaheim as we took on long term risks of a well paid guy that wasn't working out for them.
I would be disappointed if we didn't take a fair deal from Calgary for MAF. But we do not know if Calgary was even interested in MAF. The talk of asking for the 6th pick could have been rumors on Murray getting mixed in with MAF rumors.
I don't see any reason we need to worry about losin MAF to expansion or worry about "only" having 6 NHL dmen in June. Our youth movement is in full force right now. We have quality depth forwards with mid-6 potential under 23 all over the place....like almost a dozen of them. Our biggest issue this year is figuring out how to trade an above average NHL goalie paid a reasonable sum. If we run into not having enough dmen we can actually make a hockey trades for 5/6 dmen and move a guy like rust or Wilson. And replace them with guentzel without missing much.
Last year we didn't have any draft picks. We didn't have any dmen we could trust with full confidence. We didn't have forward depth to trade. We didn't have a goalie whose a complex situation but could be turned into something at the right moment. |

I am one of those that have been wanting grabner for somewhile. Think he fits perfectly here but his production is alarming |

So the datsyuk contract it's only a cap hit and zero salary? Some reason I thought that would be impossible to move but now that I've realized it's only a cap hit it should have been easy to move.
Looks like a good trade for both teams. |

I get nervous guys around here now just want to be "speed". I do think a team needs to have some balance. Guys like hornqvist who has a different skill set. |

Grabner is okay but we don't need another 3rd or 4th line winger. We need a top six LW or 6/7 defenseman. |

Balance is good.
Consider speed equivalent to grit....you still need skill.
Grabner is probably of no more use than Jayson Megna or Joe Vitale at this point. Plus we need to think top 6 forward, we have about 13 bottom 6 forwards.
In conclusion, adding a forward is top 6 or bust, speed is a bonus. |

Yes I agree. Not sure I see it happening. Teams never have everything they want. I'm glad we have 3 C we trust, goaltending, and a quality top 4 D. We seem to best when we have those pieces. Everything else is a spare part. |

They seem like a odd trade partner. They're in the same division and already have a $7+ million goalie....but I wouldn't question Ek |

Since that would be highway robbery, I'm thinking Cbus wouldn't do that. |

From what I read Cbus is looking to dump salary 'cause they have Jones to sign. So the only sense I can make out of it is if they send Bob somewhere else, we trade them MAF and they save a little over a mil.
I don't know why I'm even thinking about this... |

This is the way every 2nd round goes. Every guy I read about with hopes of falling to us is gone. |

Our pick was much less valuable but I certainly would give out 2nd rounder + for DeAngelo. That one was a head scratcher to me. |
