In MLB, NBA and NFL teams practically send out press releases advising they're thinking of trading this guy for that guy, or looking at signing this free agent or that one. Almost looks like they're trying to gauge market reaction and see if there are any other potential competing options before they pull the trigger. At the very least it generates headlines, media talk and interest in the team which helps sell tickets.

But Gary & the Charlatans figure it's better to keep negotiations private to minimize trade packages and put a damper on player contracts to maintain parity and protect the owners' bottom line.

Well that's not true. The two most respected scouting agencies, ISS had him behind Chychrun and Sergachev. CSB had him behind Chychrun, ahead of Sergachev.

Future considerations had him behind both as well.

There were a couple of publications like McKeens that put him at the top, but honestly, the less respected ones.

If anything, most of the scouting community says the opposite to what you claim.
