I compare him to Tanev. You like Tanev so I think it is a safe bet and by the time Edler moves on we have his replqacement - VANTEL
I do like Tanev and I actually think that OJ projects to more than him which is awesome. I just don't see that elite player, much like Jake who I'm thrilled to have, I don't see as a guy with elite potential and when you pick at 5 or 6, that's what I hope for. |

I remember two years ago people were complaining we didn't take Ehlers or Nyslander . Don't hear a lot about them yet either same as JV |

Actually Tyler Myers because of his size or Erik Karlsson because he reminded me of Neidermyer |

I too liked what Sergachev brought on the offensive side of the puck. Perhaps OJ is the most NHL ready. We will have to see. I just didn't see him as better than Tkatchuk if I'm wrong 5 years down the road I'll admit it. - I-own_da-Northwest
Again, OJ wasn't Benning's first pick, Dubois was, but Columbus (frank)ed everyone over by reaching. If everything went as what was expected, Columbus would have taken JP 3OA and EDM would have probably taken Tkachuk. Benning wasn't going to get the deal he wanted to trade down to take Juolevi later on, so he had to pick him then. I don't think he was ever sold on Tkachuk and besides, we already have a top 6 PF in the system named Virtanen, remember him? At some point BPA has to give way to need, especially when the BPA is something you already have, at that point you're just wasting your pick. Benning reached, but only because he couldn't get a deal that made sense to trade down a few spots or be assured that if he did that Juolevi would still be on the board. I'm fine with the pick, like I said this morning, anyone who expected Benning to pull a rabbit out of his ass was setting themselves up for major disappointment. |

Thanks to the Gudbranson trade. Tkatchuk was almost a 2ppg player in the ohl that plays a hard hitting power forward game... Jost beat mcdavid's record internationally at the same age. Those will be the two best players of the draft. Boeser is good but will not help us for another 2 years(which isn't a bad thing). I see the Russian Guy as better offensively than OJ and Chychrun as better all around. I'll be pleasently surprised if the kid makes the show as anything more than a 3rd pairing guy. - I-own_da-Northwest

Please keep it on hockey discussion. We don't criticize every one of you're uninformed posts. I'll admit Edler is highly skilled but his hockey sense is awful. I played with guys in junior B that made better puck decisions than him. - I-own_da-Northwest
You realize the game is a "bit" slower in Junior B right? Guys have time to write out a map of their decisions. |

Juolevi has far more offensive upside than Tanev. |

If you trash Canuck prospects you aren't going to be well received. You lost all credibility when you make comments like Edler is useless. If we can trade him for a bag of pucks we should take it. He is at worst, a high end number 3 dman. Personally I think he is a number 2 |

For all those saying we need to pick up another first rounder, if history tells us anything we can count on Borgstrom being on our roster in the next couple of years |

So are we geniuses or morons? I thought we'd def be drafting Dubois or Tkachuk. We need D, but it sounded like Tkachuk is going to be an elite player. I guess we'll have to wait a few years to see how we did. |

We got the best all round Defence man in the draft. Best skater imo. Yep time to female dog and moan about how bad we suck. #firebenning #firelinden #imgonnajumpoffthelionsgate. |

I personally felt after the top 4 there was a lot of disparity. |

Last 3 years;
62Gp 22P -39
74Gp 31P +13
52Gp 20P -8
Stats are alright definitely top pairing-like, but pay attention to how much he coughs up the puck on those up the centre to opposing players, I don't think he's worth 5/year. |

I'm actually surprised Sportsnet didn't switch to a BlueJays in 30 or Austin Matthews special... |

good post and well said on BPA. BPA only makes sense to a certain point…then you have to start filling gaps and needs and Benning is doing that. not sure why some around here just can't wrap their heads around that. |

Tufte at 25, McGuire didn't give him high ratings.
Tage Thompson who is he. Seems to die off after 25.
This is why you don't trade Hansen for a second or a late first. |

That was the general consensus, strong first Rd, then a huge drop off in talent. |
