The general consensus when I was working Mem Cup was that EDM was looking HARD at Juolevi. But when Dubois goes third it changes the structure and strategy of the draft. EDM can't pass on Pool-jarvi so IMO I think we got lucky getting Juolevi.

Like I said, CBJ reached and turned the draft board inside out, no way could EDM resist taking Pulj. You could tell that Benning wasn't happy, Juolevi wasn't his first pick, it's clear he really wanted CBJ to take Pulj and for EDM to take Juolevi or Tkachuk so that he could pick Dubois. That said, Juolevi is a really good skater and after a year or two in junior and some seasoning in the AHL under whoever is coaching Utica should be a stud.

I don't think the Canucks ever thought about taking Tkachuk. They just didn't seem sold on him. We take the best ranked D man and highest in our history and people freak out, but we knew this would happen lol.. It's a great pick for this organization. We finally have a D man who has the potential to be a #1 puck mover.. Bennings never gonna be a fan fav but he's one of those GM that we could easily look back and realize half our team were his picks. I'm excited to see what this kid does

Interesting...my buddies are at the draft and they are sitting beside a few ex NHLers and a scout. They were female doging about the pick and the group chimed in and said they thought Juolevi might go 3rd...goes to show you the consensus lists means jack
