What should we expect from Shaw? Can he play as top 6 RW?
- deadpoulet

He is Brendon Gallagher with less offensive skill. He is a pest. Will take some of the dumbest penalties you have ever seen, but all the fans will love him. His ideal roll is a 3rd line winger and he is great in front of the net on the PP

Sure the return for Shaw was nice, but losing him just sucks in general.

Unless we make some serious moves here at forward, you can make a legitimate argument that we have the worst forward depth in the entire NHL. As top heavy as it gets.

ZERO chance at Cup contention unless we get creative and improve the forward depth dramatically.

Oh, but at least we have an unmovable 6mil goalie that just get outplayed and bounced out of the first round of the playoffs by Elliot and the Blues....

MUST improve at forward or the season will be a lost cause. Get it done Stan!

- SimpleJack

have the hawks "improved" after dumping bicks, TT and shaw =

funny they supposedly had the deepest forwards after the last years trade deadline and look how far that went...now we got well paid hall of famers with

still got dumping to do....how the hell do you add any decent bottom 6, solve the 1LW problem and find a 4D with 7 mil is cap space....(frank) it

Yea, he is. LOL....that was so cool. Shaw was a laugh a minute. Will miss that little ball of hate.

Hopefully next offseason the Hawks sign Anthony Louis. He's got quite a mouth on him.

Probably better LW in spots. Unless you find a C/RW he can gel with top 6, he's better suited in the 3rd/4th lines. He can spot fill pretty much anywhere, plays to the wall every shift and will go balls out shift after shift. The only caveat is health, likely his back. He'll take the dumbass penalty a few times a season too. Go check out his video highlights from the 2013 Stanley Cup run. Lotsa good Shawzy stuff in there from every round.

Not much. We will look at getting a Matt Martin or promote Ryan Hartman. 4.5 million is a ridiculous about of money for Shaw. I have seasons ticket with the Owen Sound Attack and really enjoyed the couple years Shaw was there. It was a dream to see my Hawks draft him and see him play there the last 3 years. It is time to move on though, you cant pay two guys 21 million and expect to keep you most valuable role players because BETTMAN said so!!!

Here's where Stanley earns his money, by moving Rundbad for some Ladd cash. Ladd is willing to take the discount. Does Ladd at $3.5 get it done?
- RedFeather

Moving Rundblad would get us nothing in terms of cap space. He's buried in Rockford, only $100,000 cap hit.

I am going to guess Matt Martin's FA AAV will be only 50-60% of Shawzy. Probably close to the same term too, 4 years for that I'd guess.

Ladd is looking for $6.5M per year for 7 years. I'm not sure where this crazy notion of him taking a big discount is coming from. I would absolutely love Ladd but it's not happening.

"When we spoke after the season, they said it would be tough," Ladd told Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet via a phone conversation Tuesday. "The likelihood is they don't have the room to make it work."

- coldsteelonice

Nowhere on planet earth will 16 ever get $6.5 per, is my prediction.

Now I realize why I never click on any of the local scribes Twitter feeds. They have nothing of substance. Re-tweets don't count.

Their priority is counting American vs Canadian draftees and how Lindy Ruff got a nice applause. Nifty.

- blackhawk24

That may be true, but no one...and I mean no one, on these boards had Shaw going to Montreal for two second round picks. We follow those Hawk beat writers. I doubt any of them are following us.

What do you think the Hawks will be looking at? There are too many spots with not enough space right now. Maybe suggest something else?

Cheap, tough as nails, and a good teammate: Matt Martin.

Next year or two may be tough, I don't see any way to upgrade at LW unfortunately. Think that's the reality we need to accept, if we want to get out of fantasy land.

Matt Martin has something to prove and he hasn't won a cup yet. I believe we could get him at a max. AAV of 2 million over 3 years

Stan Bowman described trading Andrew Shaw as a "very tough day" and a "difficult decision."

If I were Q and Bowman I would roll the dice on Darling. I know we don't know much about the goalie we signed on a one way from Sweden but who new what Hasek had when we signed him? This guy put up elite numbers in the Swedish elite league and people on the board say well the ice surface is bigger over there. The puck and net are the same size so roll the dice and trade Crow for some draft picks and prospects. Look at what it would take to sign Ladd and if the price is to steep roll the dice that you can land Brouwer or Lucic!!
- scott.jackson

Easier said than done. Stan would likely love to trade cc for a fair return, problem is teams he can trade with are limited by 1)they need a goalie, 2) CC will agree to be traded to them 3) they are willing to pay cc 6M.
That limits his partners and then stan has to negotiate a fair return with those left. In the meantime, those same trade partners are talking to all the other teams trying to unload their goalies in order to get a better deal.

I think we can get him for 4.5 million tops. He has made his money over the last 10 years in the NHL. He can play in Chicago and have a chance a some cups for the next 4 or 5 years

I believe the Hawks will make a run at Martin and Campbell. I also think Stan has a trade or two up his sleeve to sign LADD before 07-01-16

He is better suited to lower lines, but he is all heart and soul. You will love him. He plays right in front of goalie on power play and is good with tips in front. Will throw around his body and gets under opponents skin. Good fighter for a smaller guy. Will take the bad penalty every now and then but overall a guy you really want on your team

Trade Crawford and Kruger at full cap hit and Stan can add to the defense group, add a Top 6 LW for 4-5mil and then fill in with NHL Veteran UFA depth at $1mil each.

Ladd at 4years x $5mil
Matt Cullen, Brad Richards, Dominic Moore, Colton Scevior, or Chris Kelly at 1 yr x $1mil
Campbell at 1 year x $1.5mil
Chad Johnson @ 1mil x 1 yr

Ladd-Toews-Hossa
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Panik-Richards/Cullen-Schmaltz
Desi-Moose-Hartman

Keith-Seabs
Campbell-Hammer
Kempny-TVR

Darling
Chad Johnson

Anyone have any better ideas? Starting to think the Hawks are up poop creek....
