Ah Jim Nill and the Dallas Stars are next... They can trade that pick for robbing Johns away from the blackhawk organization.

Enzo,

My turn to start hitting the booze I think...Army just said that "he

- Jason Millen[Allen] wants to be here, he wants to be the guy. I believe that before the start of next season we'll have something [long term contract extension] done."

Let's just say I'm not sold on him being the answer for the future.

See, that's the issue.... you needed to pop a few 3-4 hrs ago.

And what is Army gonna say anyway? I hope to hell Allen is the answer, cuz if he's not, we're screwed.

I think Vanek makes any team he's on slower.
- RedFeather

At 1M, his production through his career kinda speaks for itself. I'd take a shot at him for 1M. Worst case you waiver him and call up a 950k Rockford guy. Lose 50k. Oh well.

It's an ice cream place, didn't know they had one in Northbrook. It's awesome. I gain about 12 pounds just driving by the place.
- John Jaeckel

Believe it or not, I am not a fan of that place. Did you ever eat at Oberweis? (My personal favorite is Culver's).

I'd settle for a comment like...."we really don't want to distract Jake for next season so I don't expect we'll take up contract extension talks until next June"

ETA - darn blogger responsibilities curbing my drinking and posting....guess I could always post under my old handle as a safe harbor?

Now I realize why I never click on any of the local scribes Twitter feeds. They have nothing of substance. Re-tweets don't count.

Their priority is counting American vs Canadian draftees and how Lindy Ruff got a nice applause. Nifty.

I know that silly, just my opinion Motte's closer to being ready than Scmaltz, in a bottom six role. Don't think Scmaltz is even ready for a bottom six role yet.

Getting a wee bit testy aye!

- walleyeb1

I don't think either one of them has given anybody a reason to believe they can step in last year. We are all hoping that a couple of young prospects can step in and fill a role. We have no other choice, but to hope that because of the salary cap. I think the Hawks need to shuffle the deck and make a splash by trading a core guy or two and get a little younger. At that point I thin Motte and Schmaltz get a decent shot. If the team stays the way it is Q WILL NOT play them. Not trying to be a negative person, but Q is Q!

Sure the return for Shaw was nice, but losing him just sucks in general.

Unless we make some serious moves here at forward, you can make a legitimate argument that we have the worst forward depth in the entire NHL. As top heavy as it gets.

ZERO chance at Cup contention unless we get creative and improve the forward depth dramatically.

Oh, but at least we have an unmovable 6mil goalie that just get outplayed and bounced out of the first round of the playoffs by Elliot and the Blues....

MUST improve at forward or the season will be a lost cause. Get it done Stan!

Gotta add a top 6 winger. HAVE TO.

If one other person says Schmaltz, my head is gonna explode.

I know people have cringed a bit on Vanek... but a 1 year, 2M per might be a Brad Richards-ish type deal Stan might jump on.

Don't love Vanek's character though. I'm torn.

I tweeted, CHI needs to replace Shaw's grit/character on the cheap. Some names that come to the top of my mind... Ryan White, Vernon Fiddler, Matt Martin, Downie, Eaves... or dare I say Weise.

A sign of a good GM is you never hear a thing until afterwards.

Kinda like Henry Hill when he got busted. "....all the noise I knew they were cops. If they were wise guys, I wouldn't have heard a thing".

See you already have an out for your posts.

I hear you on this, but no chance a guy straight out of juniors/NCAA will slot in the 1LW, at least neither of those guys. Maybe with a yearish in the Rock/bottom 6 role to get acclimated they have a chance late in the year. Need established players for that role, not going to be able to learn on the fly with Toews/Hoss.
- gringointoronto

Next year or two may be tough, I don't see any way to upgrade at LW unfortunately. Think that's the reality we need to accept, if we want to get out of fantasy land.

Like Edzo would say, "stop it right here".

Vanek? Pass. Now Richards again, at $2M, if they move AA? Sold.

Meanwhile better options came and went. Now you have an open roster space.

Vanek is bottom of the barrel.

Who sourced that Shaw was asking for 4.5? Some dude is running around Twitter screaming at Mark Lazerus that it was really only 3.125m

WOW

Something of value from a local scribe during the draft (assuming this is correct)

Mark Lazerus ‏@MarkLazerus · 3m3 minutes ago

Barring more trades, here are the #Blackhawks' picks tomorrow: 39, 45, 50, 83, 95, 113, 143, 144, 173, 203.

I agree with your Jack. The problem lies with Bowman handing out these NMC like candy. Crow if ask to wave the NMC for a trade has the right to say NO. This is Bowman's fault and not the players. I think the only way to help relieve the cap problem is to trade Crow and now that Shaw is gone you need to try and add Kruger or AA in the deal. I know this isn't a popular decision on the board, but what else do the Hawks do? Trade KANE OR TOEWS? I don't think so

Yeah, I've been confused for months now as to why moving Crawford is such an unpopular decision to make. I mean, its pretty obvious to me at least that by keeping him we simply can't put together enough forward depth to compete for a Cup. I mean its pretty straight forward. And now here we are....
