I think Montreal felt sorry for Stan after the Danault trade turned out to be a bust for the Hawks. Two 2nds for Shaw was a gift.

If chychrun falls can the hawks flip two of these seconds to move up and grt him? I know its a long shot but i can dream.

Not really. Had the Habs signed Shaw to an offer sheet between 3 and 4 million the Hawks would have gotten a 1, 2 and 3. I think it was a good trade for both teams. The Habs didn't need to give up a 1 and the Hawks got decent value that wasn't gonna be coming back anyway.

I get people are upset with Shaw leaving, but let's take a look back at Hawks departures following Cup runs and what they got for contracts:

Bolland: FLA - 5yr x 5mil AAV, UFA in 2022 w/ modified NTC
Frolik: CAL - 5yr x 4.3mil AAV, UFA in 2021
Saad: CBJ - 6yr x 6.0mil AAV, UFA in 2022
Brouwer: WSH - 3yr x 3.6mil AAV, UFA in 2017 w/ modified NTC (waived for Blues)


Leddy: NYI - 7yr x 5.5mil AAV, UFA in 2023
Byfuglien: 1st contract w/ WPG - 5yr x 5.2mil,
re-upped for 5yr x 7.6mil w/ NMC/modified NTC

Seriously, these are types of deals guys sign when they are moved from the Hawks and the reason why the Hawks are continually running up against the cap.

Not trying to argue a few of the deals were a bit more than you might want them to be, but when other teams value players (in a hard cap league), the ability to retain talent is very difficult.

I hope with Shaw gone now this doesnt give Bowman the wild idea to go overpay Ladd to stay now
