Shaw at $4.5 million?
Thanks for all you've done for Chicago, Andrew.
On a side note, Milan Lucic at $6.0 mil >>> Andrew Shaw at $4.5. |

Source says Andrew Shaw is asking for at least $4.5 million AAV. Moving him might be more realistic than moving Kruger. FLA a possibility.
assuming that source is the FO, then it's bye-bye time for 65 - jt19
No wonder it's taking so long. There's no way he's getting that. |

Shaw and Lucic might wind up in Florida. That's a powerful team down there. |

Andrew Shaw produced last season similar to players making 3%-4% of the salary cap.
So his value was around $2.2M to $2.9M last season. |

What's funny to me when people talk about Crosby's contract in comparison to Kane and Toews cap hits is the fact that Crosby apparently took less knowing full well they would have a better chance of winning and adding complimentary players if he took a little less. Toews and Kane both took equal contracts to become the highest paid players in the NHL. Now since then we have heard rumblings of both Kane requesting the Hawks pursue Ryan Kesler because he was a guy Kane wanted to play with and now rumblings from JJ about Toews and Kane both requesting a guy like Lucic. Well that's interesting they both think they can be the highest paid players in the league and still request specific types of guys they want their team to acquire that would fit their idea of ideal teammates/linemates. You can't really have your cake and eat it too. They both had to know that by taking those massive contracts they were limiting what could be done to bring in role players or guys they want to play with specifically.
Just goes to show how much of a character guy Crosby is in taking that discount as he easily could have demanded and been paid more money, he understood the financial implications and you have to wonder if the Pens would have been able to raise the cup like they just did had Crosby been paid more money....
Anyways I'm not here to bash Kane and Toews for getting paid, that's well earned money. I just think it seems like a certain degree of entitlement is implied in asking for your team to bring in certain players knowing full well your team has no money to pay anybody because both guys wanted their pay day. Interesting to think about anyways how much easier life might be for Stan Bowman if he was able to get those guys to agree to a little bit less... Thoughts? - Ballam
Toews and Kane have earned their contracts no question. It may have been shortsighted on their part not to take a little less so that Toews can have that left wing he's looking for and Kane can have a true 2nd line center he wants. I would think they would rather be competing for a Cup instead of being knocked out in the first round and still have to move players like Shaw and Krueger not to mention Crawford and have to field a weaker team than the one last year. |

FLA has the 23rd and 33rd overall picks in the draft. Can Hawks get one of those for Shaws rfa rights? - onehundredlevel
I'd guess the 33rd would be doable |

FLA is said to be super focused on fancy stats (hence the pursuit of Yandle). What are Shaw's stats like? |

Probably good that they took Tallon off, cause they would be franked if he was handing out their contracts this coming summer.
They have 15 mil in cap space for this summer, with trocheck as the big piece to sign, and they only need 1 player on offense to have a complete roster.
Problem is next summer they have Jagr, Smith, Huberdeau, Mackenzie, and thorton needing new replacments or new contracts. Then literally the entire defensive corps is up for a new contract or walking. Kulikov (UFA), Kindl (UFA), Petrovic (RFA), Ekblad ($$$), Kampfer (RFA).
With only yandle and matheson on contract right now.
Gonna be interesting to see how that team goes. |

Lazerus "Shaw a two-time champ, a proven playoff performer, a 20-goal scorer. He wants to be paid as such. Can't blame him. But Hawks can't do that." |

Playing out of position on the first line. Shaw is a really nice bottom 6 player. Thanks but no thanks. |

Who's ready for the Ryan Hartman PR hype machine to kick once shaw is dealt this weekend? I am!!!!!!
Funny how Myers and Lazerus who can't get a source anywhere else, both have the same information at almost the same time.....At least Kuc was smart enough to NOT tweet it when Faber, I mean source, sent the text out............

Thomas Vanek will be bought out. He is a left wing. He is going to be paid handsomely by the Wild to not play for them. Interesting to see where he lands, someone will take a flyer on him. |

Yikes....
So if Kruger got a little over 3 million per AAV
Shaw wants at least 4.5, yet to be seen if he gets....
what is Panarin going to want? Answer well above 6 AAV, and I very well begin to wonder how the hell Bowman slides that in. Not good.
I'm not going to walk away, as I stare at 16's deal and just feel my face turning red and blood pressure rising........... - SteveRain
Shaw can take a flying leap if he wants that much, and THAT is why we need to lock up Panarin a.s.a.p. folks!!!! The longer we wait, the more he's going to want.

Well, I think Jagr and Thorton will be gone next year and they're working on an extension with Ekblad right now.
You're right, it'll def be interesting to see what they do! |

The Hawks better damn well get Panarin signed right after July 1st. You can't be in this same situation three years in a row. We heard Saad was staying, we thought we could sign Shaw...and now we can't make the same mistake with Breadman. Also, it seems the initial numbers are always about 20-33% higher than what everyone envisions. My guess is Panarin will get in neighborhood of about 7.5 million at this pace. We need to stop this "we will worry about next year, next year". That is killing us.

I was expecting something in the 3-3.5 range. At 4.5 per year? Hawks simply cant do that. Ok.. pick up the phone and see what you can get for him Stan. |
