We sent him to MTL for Weise and Flash. - JRoenick97
That's not right Hartman's still in Rockford. |

Ehhhh, maybe. I guess it depends on the team and the need. - John Jaeckel
Edmonton would be a good destination for Shaw, Winnipeg too (maybe Stan could get his 22nd pick back). |

Hartman wasn't traded for them, that was Danault and a 2nd round pick - hawkss81
Yes, I meant our shutdown center from the Rock. |

I would think Shaw's worth at least an early 2nd round pick....just my opinion though. - DarthKane
I think certain hockey minds would agree with you. He is a 2x champion, can slide up and down the lineup and plays his heart out. Easily a 2nd rounder... IMO also. |

Yeah, not anymore, they traded him away

Whats your vibe? Is Shaw gone? - z1990z
I think the closer we get to when qualifying offers are due, much less UFA, if no one else has been moved, then the likelihood of Shaw being moved gets higher and higher.

I think a lot of teams would love to have him.
What a choice, though; Shaw or Kruger. Not Shaw and Kruger (unless someone else moves). |

I believe that he meant Danault. That's what I extrapolated from his post. |

Also worth noting... its only 7.3 (lol "only) for the 1st/2nd/3.
Over 7.306M per is 2 1st/1 2nd/1 3rd. Vlad T got 7.5M in SLT.
If panarin goes over 75 points again, gotta think his agent will use Tarensenko as a comp and shoot for 7.5M. What teams can do 2 firsts/a second/a third and have 7.5 lying around.
Hawks need to get a 2 year bridge deal on Panarin at like 5.5. Likely wont happen, but it would be nice. - gnosox1986
Actually, the limit you note is $7.510 for this summer - plus the wrinkle that if the term is longer than 5 years, you divide total package by five to get to the compensation range - so 7 years $42 gets comp back in the $8.4 range. |

I think it depends on what else is out there at what price.
Also, teams may be concerned about the AAV and term Shaw wants with his injury history.
Maybe he gets you a late first. But for all his positives, there are some negatives or potential negatives, and if he is asking $3.5-4 million per over 4-5 years?
Remember the caps signed Brouwer immediately for $2.3M over 2 years. BIG difference.
So all things being equal, I'm not sure how big the trade market is for Shaw. I think a second round pick might be all you get. |

Exactly, the potential shut down center that could have replaced Krugs |

Shaw is definitely worth a high 2nd round pick in a trade.
If Shaw signs with another team this summer at $1.8m or more, Hawks get 2nd round pick compensation. So for giving another team rights to negotiate w him, and right to match another offer, we'd have to get something better than an "average" 2nd round pick.
For instance, if the Pens offered their 2nd for Shaw now, the hawks are guaranteed to get AT LEAST that simply by letting him leave via free agency, so no.
But if Toronto offered their 2nd, that's maybe something that might make sense. |

Hypothetical:
Hawks send Krugs, Shaw, Crawford to Flames for Ferland and Backlund with 2nd round picks in 16 and 17.
Hawks send mcneill and a 2016 4th to oilers for Yakupov
Send a 5th round pick to LA for Lucic's rights and sign him 4 years at 5.85.
Send Anisomov to Arizona for Dvorak and a 2nd
Sign Campbell 1 year at 1.5
Sign Enroth 1 year at 1.6
Sign Schlemko 1 year at 750k
Leaves Hawks 1.88 under the cap.
Got bored on capfriendly with these. Would be a complete armageddon of moves - ikeane

Duncan Keith will have made @80mil in 17yrs. I'm sure he is very happy with having to set himself and his family up just nicely. - PatShart
I'm sure he is quite comfortable. That said, he is a top 3-5 D-man in the league and could easily get more on the open market. The vast majority of us would be happy to get $1m per year. These guys already blow that out of the water. If you put in the work to be one of the 5 best performers in your field, you would want to be compensated as such. |

Yeah, I'd prefer 4, but if you want to knock down that cap hit, gotta add term. That's the reality in a salary cap world, and players/agents know that. - JRoenick97

Amazing how some posters have elevated Danault to Kruger shut down range after 4+ years in the Rock and what, 30+ games in the NHL?
Potential is all he is until he proves otherwise. |

All valid points John. A couple negatives are potential suspensions, injury history, maybe taking a late penalty in a crucial game. The trade market is a lot bigger for guys like Ladd, Lucic, Brouwer, maybe McGinn. These guys have a bit more size and durability.
Speaking of McGinn have the Hawks had any interest JJ? His previous salary is $3M. Maybe a raise to $3.5-3.75 for 2-3 years wouldn't be a bad deal for the Hawks. Considering there are a couple contracts moved. |

Like with Saad last year...I wonder if Stan is forced to deal Shaw's RFA rights...that he deals him to a lower rated Eastern Conference team that has the cap space to sign Shaw long term.
That way at least Stan is dictating that Shaw is not helping out a contender.

His suppression numbers when he was in the PK slot were great. Better than Kruger's actually. |
