Berra didn't have a goalie coach oversea's so until he came to Colorado he was a very Raw goalie. Berra put up some great numbers at the end of his tenure with the Avs as well. He is a good NHL back up who can be slightly inconsistent.

The biggest issue with Berra is the Avs need the Cap and even if he played far better than Pickard in training camp he'd never make the team. The Avs need to see how Pickard fares next season to choose which goalie to protect during the upcoming expo draft.

Thats sort of not true, he worked with Allaire in the past in his swiss summer camps. It was Allaire he advocated for him, thats why the Avs traded for him based on that recommendation of Allaire working with him in the past.

It wasn't until he had the every day exposure of Allaire that he started to turn things around a bit

Floppy fish. Ok for a night, but make sure to wash the sheets the next day.

im not on Team berra, but hes not as bad as he was on the Flames when he was on the Avs. Hes just a back up nothing more.

Avs were stupid to pay a 2nd round pick for him, luckily flames messed up that pick (looks like it at least), and luckily Avs got a young asset (chances are hes a full time NHler).

End of it all, Avs end up exactly how they started, have a 2nd round pick who may never be an NHLer

A summer camp doesn't count as a full time goalie coach.

no it doesnt, but it wasn't a 1 shot time b/w the 2. berra and allaire worked together for a 3 years in his summer programs before the trade. They had history.

But as a Pro goalie he goes on his way and works iwht his pro teams goalie coach instead and potentially undoing a lot of the work that Allaire did with him.

It shouldnt be shocking to see how it started to see more promising when Allaire was with him full time

What I was referring to was when he came from Europe to Calgary he was still very raw and needed some work, it also explained why his numbers where bad the few games right after the trade. However now that he has had time with a full time goalie coach his game is much improved.

Nice little start to the day, avs resigned Martinsen to a 1 year deal.
Love that they signed him to only a 1 year. Smart

Not yet, but he was making 700k last year so I think he gets in the 900k range.

Edit 640K. He just signed his qualifier. Nice work Avs.

Nice big body for 4th line. No complaints on that one.

Coga - If Folwer really is in play for Buffalo for the 8th overall pick for salary reasons, is there any conceivable trade that the Avs could swing for Lindholm?

#10 + ??? - Lindholm
Gasp - Landy for Lindholm & ???

Ej - Lindholm
Barrie - Bigras
Beauch - Zads

That seems like a blueline that the Avs could really build out from.

Its a 1 way deal but who cares, he wouldnt hurt being a healthy scratch or sending down to AHL if he sucks this year. I see no risk in this deal.

10th and Bigras is probably what gets the job done. And that would be a tough deal to make but it might be worth it. Ducks probably will want the cost controlled, expansion exempt Dman if they are giving up Lindholm

However I do think Avs have a good core in the making, just need to be patient with Zads Bigras developing at the NHL level this year.

I am excited for Zads and Bigras, EJ and Barrie are solid...just after watching playoff hockey I just cant take another year of feeling pinned down in the D end, unable to make a breakout pass, being out of position, turning the puck over in the corner, being outworked and overworked...i.e. Holden, Gelinas (and Beauch on the last point...poor guy was fried at the end).

I pine for a REAL top-pairing of d-men

I agree too, I would love to have a legit top pairing D core. However I like the idea of going after PK instead. If they move barrie and Duchene for him.

Zads PK
Bigras EJ

as your top 4. You should be able to win with that.

I think if the avs are looking to improve their bottom six they should be all over marcus kruger. Great 3rd/4th line centre and would be a definite upgrade on john mitchell. Hawks always looking for d as well so it could be a good opportunity to ditch nick holden.

I disagree with an upgrade over Mitchell. He isnt a better C, than him but is getting paid over 3m and doesnt out perform him offensively or defensively.

I dont hate mitchell, he can be upgraded but guys like Kruger are paid to be a 3C but dont even out produce 4C guys, he just is a more notable name bc he has won cups with the hawks

Yes i agree with your points but also being a part of that type of locker room and having a winning pedigree are intangibles that can't really be measured and would probably have a positive impact on the avs young guys. Kruger would probably get far more ice time with the avs than he is in chicago too and his numbers would do nothing but rise with mitchell type ice time.

just cant see the Avs taking another 1.2+m in cap space and not being an upgrade for their Bottom 6. Thats just bad business for them right now
