Shocked to see the Subban / Weber trade. Great deal for Nashville. Don't understand it from Montreal's perspective.
Does Stamkos stay in Tampa because that's where he's truly comfortable playing as opposed to having his every pimple examined by the Toronto media?
Were I a team, I would have been nervous as heck to pour a lot of dollars into Stamkos with blood clot issues. Guys have had to retire because of this. (Haven't they?)
I'm certain a Shattenkirk to Edmonton deal could not be consummated simply because Shatty said no-way am I signing a deal to play there past this season. They don't want another Chris Pronger exodus.
With Stamkos off the market, I'm all but certain someone will overpay for Backes.
I'm simply hoping the Blues can retain Troy Brouwer and get a good return for Shatty. - bcallaway

Yeah that's a head scratcher. The only downside for Nash is if Weber retires early and they get hit with a substantial cap penalty. - fattyboubatty
But they traded Weber, wouldn't Montreal retain the cap penalty if Weber were to retire? |

Supposedly Poile approached Bergevin and Poile brought up the name Weber. Really shocked at that trade cause Weber has been their backbone for years. Two fan favorites traded for one another, how often does that happen. Good quality players also. Blues players are happy they won't have to block Weber's shot anymore but it doesn't get much lighter with Subban's.
I might be wrong but isn't Subban worse defensively than Weber? I have seen very little of Subban over the years but isn't he more offensive than anything? Thought he lacked on defense a bit.
Stamkos - Glad he resigned with Tampa Bay, just wish he had waited a month to do so. Its going to make signing either Backes or Brouwer that much harder cause teams will come after them a lot quicker now.
Shatty not going to Edmonton, I think he would not resign there and Edm. knew it. Think he wants to go to the east coast, NY or Boston possibly.
This off season will tell a lot regarding Armstrong. That Elliot trade still makes me mad but oh well. Whats done is done. |

And no cap recapture goes to team that signed deal
So that is one reason why Hossa wont be moved from Hawks
If Weber retires Preds get cap recapture penalties
I read Montreal might get hit with some as well but nothing like Nashville |

They don't have anyone worth trading for that would be available.

Larsson is not as flashy but I would take him over Shatty any day, especially with that contract. He logs top pair minutes, suppresses shots, and had the highest plus rating of all the D men on his team. Hall is a lot to give up but they have plenty of firepower up front, what they desperately need is a guy like Larsson.
But yeah I'm guessing Shatty declined to extend in EDM, at least at the price they were hoping for. - fattyboubatty
Did you see the HERO chart comparison of Larsson to Petry (someone the oilers let go)? It was crazy. See it here - http://www.hockeybuzz.com...-Under-Pressure/191/77889

The preds just got a lot better. That was a big move. Of course in later years they might get hit with that cap recapture. But until then life is great.
Adam Larsson is not good enough to be exchanged for Hall alone. He is also not a better player to have than Shattenkirk at this point. Though he is younger and has what appears to be a friendly deal.
What in the hell?
According to Garth Backes already sold his home. But he said last month. Why would he sell his home in May during the play offs?
Garth also suggested, "Honestly speaking, I see Backes getting $5 million to $5.5M AAV over three seasons on his next deal.". I believe Backes said no to this very offer. So if he takes it now with someone else why? What does that say about what is going down in the lockerroom? Of course Garth has really no concept of hockey so...l
wow. and why in the hell did Stamkos resign for he earlier rejected?
I no longer understand this landscape. - BluemanGuruu
I haven't read it but if Garth commented about Backes selling his home, I believe he violated the code of conduct which is very disappointing. It also happens to not be true based on the little research I have done. If the address I believe to be correct is actually correct, then the house was listed on June 10th and removed on June 13th. There has not been a posted sale on that particular house since 2009. I won't get into it any more, the research I did, etc. IMHO, the players deserve their privacy and I try to respect that.
Also, ,if Backes signs that deal (3yr $5.5), it will be with the Blues. IMHO, Backes only leaves if he gets $6+ or crazy length at $5+. |

Actually spent a couple of minutes doing some actual research after I read Guru's post about Garth.
It's amazing how much information you can get yourself even with a very little amount of work.
ETA - Confirmed. There has been no sale recorded on his house since 2009. |

Cheaper doesn't equal better
This deal is and - Jason Millen
Agree, not saying it was a good deal for Edmonton. I think that isn't enough for Hall for sure.
Shattenkirk's agent likely let them know the asking price for an extension with Edmonton. Which I am guessing would have been between 7-8 per year. (probably closer to 7.5-8 in Edmonton)
And Larsson is signed through 2021 at just over 4.
Is Shattenkirk twice the player Larsson is? Will he still be in near the end of Larsson's deal in 2021?
I think Shattenkirk is the better player now, but if he was asking too much on an extension it makes perfect sense to move on and find someone else who will be there for years to come and not just next season. |

His house was on the market and online for a few days and it got out and was all over the place. The listing was removed quickly so many probably assumed that it was sold, but it was likely removed from all the attention it was getting from Blues fans/etc.
Someone posted the listing on stltoday. There were a couple of things that made it obvious that it was his house. There were a few pictures on the wall of David and Kelly, ones that the Blues have shown on tv/etc.
But the best part was that in the google street view that was linked in the listing, it had David on the sidewalk in front of the house with one of the dogs. His face was blurred out, but it was so obvious that it was him.

It's the team that signed the cap run around contract that pays the penalty. |
