This was about immigration.

Muslim immigration.

Yes but obviously it goes deeper. Like the States, the divide between haves and have-nots is growing. The haves, who are better educated, benefit from stronger markets, labour mobility, etc. Have-nots only see threats. Right wing politicians exploit these fears and blame "the establishment", foreigners, etc.

I think either Bernier or Reimer will be backing up Price for the Canadiens.
Hopefully the first one.

Here's hoping Leafs somehow manage to agree on a deal for PK Subban with Canadiens, sendiing Bernier+++ the other way

Putting Lupul and Bernier on Robidas island gives no real cap advantage except during the season.

You can only exceed the cap by 10% (7.2 million) during the offseason before LTIR comes into effect at the end of training camp. Robidas and Horton are already at 8.2 million.

Not to mention Lupul isn't going to stay on LTIR. His agent already said he will be ready/healthy for the beginning of season.

I like Lupul as a player, when he's interested there's definitely some quality there. But the lack of consistency from a guy who's been in the game that long is unforgivable - and then there's that little issue of he's injured literally half he season.

His agent saying he'll be ready for the start of the season is meaningless - he's part of the cap until then anyway... and what if he's injured in the 2nd game of the year?

and he can't keep breaking fingernails.

I feel bad for Lupul becauses his injury history is pretty freakish. They guy obviously works out like crazy, just tough luck.

I would like to see the Leafs pick Matthews, Hart, and Day with their top three picks. Assuming the latter two are still available. I think Girard and Bitten are two real options at 31.

That's a given.

Basically what I'm saying is putting Lupul and/or Bernier on LTIR doesn't help the cap as the Leafs are maxed out on the 10% over the cap you can go over before LTIR.

Plus there's the fact that you can't prepare your cap for Lupul to be on LTIR when his agent says he's playing next season.

I notice the old Reebok ones are on sale for 80 bucks, might grab one of those and then see what they trot out for all the throwbacks they're going to do this season. Just when I think I'm out, they pull be back in.

Matthews.
31st overall: Clague (if still there) / Asplund
57: Hajek / Sokolov / Benson / Budik

Leafs might move up in 1st round today to get Chychrun (if falls outside of top10) or Niemelainen (if falls outside of top25).

Matthews would seem to be a certainty.
Hart or one of the other goalies would be fine....

i Hope they take a chance on Day earliesh. The stuff/distractions that the kid has had to deal with would mess with most adults - never mind a kid. Kind of reminds me of Iafrate.... just need to help arrange the tools in the toolbox.

I think Asplund will be gone, Ducks or Red Wings. Hajek and Benson will probably be early 2nd rounders, but who knows. Niemelainen is an interesting one.

Leafs need Subban more than Stamkos..
That said, both would be ideal.

question to the crowd here....

let's assume the Leafs were to go over the CAP by 10% during the summer... what is the impact? fine?

cause if its just a fine then good - less "transfer payments made to other teams"
