I love the pick. Sergy was the guy I hoped they would grab if they didnt move in the draft.

They should have just stopped at selling Eller and used the picks. I believe the Belichick model of draft as many as possible and tilt the odds in your favor of a serviceable players is better than grabbing trash like Shaw. If they pay him over 3/year its an over payment.

Shaw is a better Brandon Prust, who was a pretty serviceable player for the Habs when not on the DL. It's a deal that will take time to see how it plays out. Replacing Eller's contribution with a heart and soul guy who will go to war for his team is a no brainer. The habs are a better with Shaw than with Eller and I am ok with that. It also knocks Flynn down the depth chart (and hopefully out of town). Not an amazing deal but the team is better IMO.

I like some of the articles on eyesontheprize and appreciate that they put up news very quickly, but yes Berkshire started pumping up crap players with advanced stats and a good number of people there think Eller was a steal at his salary... most underrated player in the league!

Solid pick with Sergachev. I had him earlier in my little mock I did. I really thought the D were the picks to go to after the top 6. Chychrun going 16 is silly and OEL will enjoy having a capable partner. How is Gauthier still on the board at 21? (edit: Carolina just picked him... nevermind) Might be time to trade Beaulieu and get in on the late picks...

The Eller trade was fantastic. He had to use to this team at his cap hit. Danault can fill that role of a quarter of the price.

The Shaw trade is not as good as some make it out but not as bad as others make it out. Montreal should have moved a Capital pick and kept one for this year. Timmins must really not like this year's depth. Gaining Shaw is a good grab because he's proven to be excellent on a third line and will now get a chance to prove he can play 2nd. As for the contract, he's asking 4.5 for 6. Bergevin meets one and gets him to smarten up on the other demand. He's an RFA. He's not necessarily getting everything he asks for.
