He's shown flashes of brilliance at such an early stage of his career, you know it's just going to take a bit more experience before he's a star in this league and future captain of the Canucks (which I'm very confident of)

lol nobody said he doesn't need improvement on certain parts of his game - in general, a player is always a work in progress, no matter how many years he's been in the league or how much experience he has. I'm talking about value.... so if Hamhuis and Perron come in for 3-4 each for 2-3 years I think it helps this team more than an overpay for Lucic/Erikkson etc over 6 years.

Like I said there are a lot of quality players on the market and not a lot of cap space to go around. There are going to be some ridiculously good value deals signed, which depending on how the season goes can also likely be flipped for assets at the TDL.

In theory I agree with you though. Target a couple mid level UFA's and offer 2/3 year terms and hopefully trade them for picks if we aren't in a playoff position. 5 or 6 year terms are concerning.
