I highly doubt Subban's available, and if the Habs offered him and the 9OA for the 5OA, Tanev and Hansen and JB didn't take it, then he for sure should be fired. Which is why I don't believe a word of it no matter what Tomlinson says, maybe that's what Benning is offering, but I can for sure think that there's no way the Habs would take that deal if that's the case. They'd want that as a starting point and probably would want Bo as well which makes it unpalatable.
- DariusKnight

Probably not but GM'S always listen to offers during these times so the media runs with anything they can to get people amped up.

Agreed. It is all Vancouver could afford, but i would be bummed if i was a Mtl fan and this was all that was coming back...unless of course the Habs used the cap space to snag someone else...Stamkos for example. That would appease the masses.

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Henrik Sedin Wins King Clancy Trophy, 1 Sleep to Draft
Jim Benning says he expects to keep the fifth pick in the draft and that he's definitely interested in trying to acquire Milan Lucic as a free agent, plus Henrik Sedin wins the King Clancy Trophy at the NHL Awards.

- Carol Schram

1 more sleep is correct, looking forward to be back on the coast...BTW what time is the draft tomorrow?

What did you just say about Draisaitl Kid is going to be awesome. No question at all in my mind. Him and the 4th is way to much for Subban.
- thundachunk

No kidding. McDavid and Draisaitl as your 1 and 2 is money. I'd be shocked if Edmonton did that. Nuge they would part with I think.

I was thinking this too, Bo is the only thing I can see them really wanting. Let's them trade Plakanec and free up further space. If it was Bo Tanev and the 5th, we might be talking turkey. Think I would still do that deal if I'm JB, but it gives me a lot more pause.
- neem55

If we still had McCann, maybe I'd do that deal, but without McCann and if we do that deal we have no potential top 6 center in the system and I wouldn't be comfortable going forwards unless we get Stamkos. Bottom line, with expansion coming and with our cupboards still relatively bare of decent potential top 6 prospects, Subban is too expensive.

Total goals last 3 regular seasons: Hartnell 71; Lucic 62
Total points last 3 regular seasons: Hartnell 161; Lucic 158
Hartnell has also played fewer games than Lucic.

I'm not saying Canucks should get Hartnell, but he could be a good value pick-up for some team. He's not just a cap dump.

- bryndog

he would be several million cheaper, i was thinking this too.

I agree with this completely. I think my desire for a true 1D in canucks bluejust makes me bias, but its likely the wrong deal at the right time. We need to take the long road, hopefully anohter top 10 next year and keep building.

You're crazy.

Draisatl and PLD is a lot to give up, but for Subban it can't be described as way too much.

both are young and could develop into top 6 stars, but it's not a gurantee. Subban is legit and proven.
Addresses needs for both teams.

It's just a pretty fair trade really. One proven, for two potential core players (one of which just had a big breakout year)

And way more valuable than Tanev, Hansen and a 5th.

or, put another way...would we be happy trading Tanev and Hansen for Draisatl?
i'd say yes, although it would obviously leave a hole on D.

Subban is arguably a top 5 defenseman in the league. You are saying that Montreal would accept Draisaitl (who has thus far had only one decent season) and a draft pick (who could ultimately end up being a bust) for a proven, top consistent performer?? especially when there is a huge premium to be paid for in terms of finding such quality players that play this difficult position? All I can say is, Montreal fans would riot if that deal was consummated

That's exactly it - we are talking about 'potential' vs a proven elite performer who is still just hitting his peak. There is simply no chance Montreal does that deal. Again, they would require a proven and elite asset(s) coming back along with any draft pick which might be included. And by quality elite asset, we are talking about a player like Hall. For all we know, Draisaitl could end up being Sam Gagner 2.0. Simply way too much risk to absorb by the Habs

Well you are talking about that, not necessarily the case that it's true. To you Draisitl is unproven to many of us (it seems) he is very much proven, and looks very much like a core center for the next 20 years, 2c at a minimum. On top of that another top-5. Put it this way: I'd do Draisitl for Bo straight across all day, everyday. I might even do Bo and a third. And I really, really like Bo.
