Benning on PK Subban: Yeah, we've been one of the teams that have talked to them. It's a high price, he's a true #1 defenseman

Benning: "nowhere near close" to a Subban deal but expects if there is a deal to be made, negotiations would go through the night tonight

See ya later 5th overall. Interesting how he just says to the media.

If that Tomlinson quote was accurate with the Canucks turning down Subban and 9 for Tanev, 5 and Hansen, I don't think there is anyway the deal gets done.

I personally would take that deal and run.

Aside from having to deal with what I'm sure will be a very significant cap hit and term, it seems to me that signing Lucic would be a bit hypocritical, given Benning's stance on ensuring his players are all of quality character. Based on what we've seen from Lucic and his behavior over the years, it certainly doesn't look like he fits that type of mould. Wasn't the mandate supposed to be cleaning the locker room of any negative, divisive, and/or troublesome personalities?

Personally, I would rather the Canucks go after either Erikson or Brouwer, or even a guy like Nielsen (who I think is quite underrated). I think the decline in Lucic's play will be sooner than later and we will be stuck with an expensive and unmovable player in several years time.

- Zogg

Agreed, Nielsen is being overlooked as his name is rarely mentioned. Good two-way player and could likely be signed shorter term as he is already 32. He plays centre but could move Sutter up to play with the Sedins.

Admittedly Nielsen wouldn't sell season tickets.

I agree, I don't know where the quote came from but Tomlinson is usually pretty solid but that sounded pretty far fetched.

Someone around the Oilers organization just confirmed to me that the Canadiens asked for Draisaitl and the 4 pick for Subban!

Seems like a good deal for both really. The deal Canucks were asked for seems pretty dam good for us too. My guess is JB wants to deal next year's pick instead

All I want is one of Eriksson, Boedker, Okposo + someone who can play 2nd/3rd line. If we sign Lucic or trade for Subban I probably won't be as inclined to watch games this season because I'll be so ashamed of the team
- NorthNuck

Ok, i get people don't like Lucic, he's a brute, takes boneheaded penalties, played for the Bruins.
But, why on earth would anyone have a problem with Subban?
He's an eilite, PMD that this team/fanbase has long coveted. He's young, skilled, can hit, can score...what am i missing here?

People probably don't like that he costs 9mil? he also does some childish things on the ice. remember his tantrum when he got a penalty for slashing stones wrist in the playoffs in 2015?

Congrats to Henrik a real class act.

NHL can go Frank themselves for trolling the fans with the selection of the presenter.

He definitely has room for improvement but still is young a can make things happen. I've ragged on him many times to be an overpaid showboat and I stand by that. That being said, I still think he has an elite skill set that just needs to be paired with maturity.

An unproven asset (4th pick) and a player who only has a very small sample size in terms of his development for a superstar defenseman. Are you serious?

If this trade happens he goes to Edmonton, and Montreal takes PLD at #4.

Do we go with Tkachuk or Juolevi/Sergachev? I go with Tkachuk.

I would do that in a heartbeat as well. A D of Edler, Subban, Gubber, Hutton, Tryamkin and either Sbisa or Hamhuis would be very impressive! the 9th pick would still land you a decent prospect as well and there would be enough cap space to sign at least one goal scoring forward.

Terrible attitude, selfish showboater, takes cheap shots, if he decides he wants to lose a game he takes everyone down with him, attention whore, I could go on...

He gets paid what an elite #1 Dman costs.
Personality is changeable and he can grow up, i don't see either of these as insurmountable obstacles.

If that deal happens tonight I would hope JB would try to work a deal with CBJ including the 3rd and Hartnell.
