OK.... I see PK Subban as two things: 1. Why would the Habs get rid of their best player unless he has worn out some sort of welcome. or 2. The Habs realize they are extreamily top heavy in Subban and Price and the rest are crap... save for a few who are semi-crap but obviously exposed as closer to true crap rather than semi crap when they lost Price for the season.

So how does this trade go down:

1. Anything involving Horvat or Virtanen, say no.
2. Obviously our #1 pick is in play and they will take Jean Luc Picard (Or whatever his name is)
3. Subban is a 9 million dollar a year monster. They need to take Burrows back (he is French) and reduce the cost of his contract. We can then buy out Higgins.
4. Montreal has to admit that taking coke-addled Kassian was dumb.
5. Canucks have to admit that taking brain-damaged Prust was equally dumb.
6. Canucks must throw in 2 prospects like a Gaunce and a ______.
7. Canadians must give us their #1 pick.

Done.

Yeah, reality time, even if Montreal WAS shopping Subban, and I doubt that seriously, we don't have the assets. The only way we'd get Subban is if we gave them the 5OA, Tanev, Hansen and Bo and even then I don't think that'd be enough for just Subban, let alone Subban + 9OA. Edmonton has a lot more to offer than we do and more than enough 1OA top 6 forwards that they could part with (like RNH and Yak) to get a deal done.

But I don't think it happens either way.

Subban and Stamkos are childhood friends... They even played together I believe. Would landing Subban give the Canucks a leg up on signing Stamkos?

Trade tanev, 5thOA, gaunce and get them to take on burrows contract and the cash in/out is about the same. Sign Stamkos and all of a sudden your an instant contender!

The one thing Edmonton can't do is offer a good young RHD d-man like tanev and I'm guessing Montreal would really want that in any deal they make that includes Subban

No, but they do have more assets than we do that are closer to what Subban's value is. Let's not forget that trading Subban means they're rebuilding all of a sudden. I don't think Bergevin survives at that point unless he gets a mint. Of all the markets, Montreal is the worst for fan/media pressure on the GM, hell, remember that years ago a suspension to Rocket Richard caused a riot where here it's only when we lose Game 7 of the SCF... that's how mad that market is.

I think the only way this deal gets done is if subban's contact says he only plays with his brother...... Pass Subban to Subban back Subban to Subban.......

I remember back when we traded for EG when people were flipping out about giving up a second, my thoughts were who cares, the second round looks pretty weak. I seen a statement yesterday where Benning said this years second round is weak and third is even worse. After the top25 the talents drops off. No need to complain about missing out on drafting Joe Smuck.

Montreal are in a hurry to get rid of him before July 1 St before his NMC kicks in. They may pretend to be calm but they are not.

Still ...if your going to devalue him why not do it when they actually have to not before ...I don't think they are desperate to get rid of a norris winner ...just checking the temperature on his trade value

You can't find a diamond in the rough if you don't got a shovel. There'll be guys from the second round that outperform the guys taken higher, just like there always is.

But that's the cost of doing business. They aren't giving young D away.

Maybe Gudbrandson is the diamond in the rough we were looking for?
