That isn't funny at all. Why not read up on plus minus and why it's a bad stat? take you ten minutes.
- James_Tanner

I've heard the arguments, but you can apply the same arguments to most of the advanced stats as well.

90% of your posts that get any posting traffic are the same, analytics override what happens on the ice, a high scoring defenseman is more valuable than a two way defenseman, OEL is second only to karlsson, NHL writers are stupid if they don't agree with your assessment .....

When you write a piece without those inflammatory opinions you get a few replies at most.

- paulr

But...but...but....but.... if you prorate those replies over the course of a full year, then he is the blogger of the year.

IMHO, all stats are generally bad stats when considered in isolation.

As a side note, I found it interesting that some advanced stats didn't fare very well in relation to playoff results. For example, the teams who were 3rd, 4th and 5th best CF% adjusted for score and venue (per Corsica hockey) in the 1st round all lost in the 1st round, all to teams with worse advanced stats. Same with 1st round FF% adjusted for score and venue.

"And as a fully certified English Major..."

This doesn't make you smarter than other people. It especially doesn't make you smarter than others at the subject of hockey. In fact, it proves that you have chosen one of the easiest and most useless subjects in education.(I'm looking at you philosophy! You win that award. English is a close second.)

How can you be fully certified? Is there really a certification for English like there is for doctors, lawyers, accountants, plumbers, electricians, financial planners? "You know, people with actual careers that serve a purpose other than talking poop about ridiculous Shakespeare plays.

Please stop writing articles in the tone of "I'm smarter than everybody" because you are not. You can speak English. That is what you are qualified to do. I don't have a piece of paper that states that I can speak English - yet here I am, writing in English."
- Njuice

You should take a few English courses. Clearly. There isn't a coherent thought in your entire post.

I know a lot of people are so anti-intellectual that they think anyone even mentioning the accomplishment they worked years to achieve is the pinnacle of arrogance, but I've long ago come to expect no less from the internet.

Besides, it was in direct reference to a word problem, not hockey.

As for English being the easiest degree or the most useless, that is objectively false, but somehow I feel like telling you that won't matter at all.

Another debate lost by Tanner.

This is hard to watch. Kinda feel sorry for the boy who writes this blog.

i miss the days when a real true Defenseman won the award. Rod Langway. Not the guy who could produce the most offense in a year like Karlsson
- Popcorn Kid

You got your wish this year. Doughty is a good d-man that can also put up a decent amount of points.

You can't. This is not my opinion, but objectively speaking, you are incorrect.

Don't feel sorry for me, if you actually agree with that clown, feel sorry for yourself. Then, possibly seek medical attention.

Wow colour me shocked that your musical taste is terrible.

You're clearly just trolling though and I'm not falling for it.... on the off chance that you're not, then you're just embarrassing yourself.

Keith Seabrook?

I do agree though, Karlsson got robbed and McDavid clearly was the best rookie for half the year.

- FLflames34

Fixed.

Unfortunately for McDavid, it's rookie of the year not rookie for half a year.

This is classic Tanner. McDavid is not only not the best player in the league, he also shouldn't have won the ROY. The right player did win. Doughty is a better all around defenseman, and a better player than Karlsson is. End of story. Doughty winning the Norris was long overdue.

First of all, once you open the blog to see whether or not there are any inflammatory opinions, you've already clicked it, so that makes no sense.

Opinionated pieces drive comments, but 99% of readers don't comment anyways, so there isn't that much of a correlation.

Finally, Jesus himself could write about the Coyotes and not get much traffic!!

To equal a 32 point difference Karlsson would have to be one of the worst defenders in hockey and Doughty the best.

He may be the best rookie of the bunch, but he did not have the best year, which is kind of what the award indicates. The Rookie who had the best year. I don't know how you can have the best year while being injured for half of it.

I didn't realize it was who can play the most games in a season award.

Pretty close to same ppg and 1 played a full season and 1 didn't.

Not a real tough choice

If the teams were reversed you wouldn't be singing the same tune.
