Yakupov probably goes for a 2nd and maybe another failed prospect that can recover elsewhere, doubt it about the "3rd" part.

I'm not even sure any of that is accurate. I'll believe that when I see it.

I'm still liking the idea of moving up to fourth and then eating a contract from CBJ to bump up to third.

Shero should just trade everybody for picks. Then take on all the bad contracts for more picks. Come the expansion draft there will be nobody taken from the team. Then during the actual draft, start fresh.

It will be really poopy to see Severson go. There should be no reason to let him go.

Yak+1st (#4)+Fayne
Severson+3rd (2016)+2nd (2017)+2nd (2018 - conditional)

This would be great for us cause we get the another 1st round pick and a reclamation project.

That said, we are also giving up a lot. Outside of the picks (a high 3rd and what will most likely be a high 2nd) but we are also losing one of our best prospects in Severson, who is already a top 4 right handed defense-man with potential for even more. Plus we are taking on Fayne, a guy they literally couldn't give away at the end of the season - so that is 4mil. of dead weight. To me, this sounds like exactly what Edmonton would want.

You understand that Edmonton would have to agree to this too. For us to get #4 it would probably have to be Severson plus #11. It costs an insane amount to move into the top 5 of a draft.

...Agreed which is why NJ took on a horrible $4mil. contract and gave back two 2nds...

I'm sure that's the hope. You leak some info that Yak is available for a 3rd and all of the sudden there are 15+ GMs calling you. It turns into a mini bidding war and maybe you wind up with a 3rd plus a B prospect or a mid second round pick. I highly doubt we see Yak traded straight up for pick number 75 or so.

Good points. Personally, if those are the option I would keep him and see what else settles out before moving him. He may get another shot in the top 6 if other moves are made.

Well, it is 3.625 for two years. Not great, but considering the cap is not an issue for the Oilers, moving it for the 4th overall is not going to happen and the difference between the two players mentioned is not big enough to warrant it either. Now, if NJ #11 come along,, different story.

That is horrible. Yak is being valued as a 3rd pick and Fayne is not Severson. I would not do this at all. No way in hell I'd except that as a Severson trade. I hope they don't trade Severson.

Rule of thumb: if you suggest an even slightly bold trade, you will get torn apart.

Sometimes trade proposals are a punch to the nuts of both teams when you're gunning for a handshake and a pat on the back.

Mostly the punches in the nuts comes when people suggest a package of three players for a package of four, overly complicated and usually with asterisks. Those don't usually happen at the draft, though what might happen is a first liner for three players (one has his potential, the others less potential).

I'll give you what I would suggest (even though I know it'll never happen):

NJ trades Severson + 11th pick to Oilers for 4th overall and Yakupov.

CBJ trades 3rd pick + Hartnell to NJ for 4th pick + a minor leaguer (to formalize the deal) or a 3rd round pick from next year.

CBJ trades that 4th pick down with Montreal for 8th overall and a 2nd.

Why Edmonton wins: they get a top 4 defense and a good forward prospect (one of Keller, Brown, Jost or even another good d like possibly Sergachyev at 11) while trading a guy who isn't going to get much more value than that, and sacrificing a draft pick that they don't need that much.

Why CBJ wins: they get rid of a contract, get a third next year and an extra second this year, only move down five slots, still select one of those centers they want (Brown or Keller).

Why Montreal wins: they can draft either Tkachuk or Dubois and bring a little more excitement to the organization (which Bergevin needs right now) without sacrificing too much.

Why NJ wins: they get a forward with all star potential which they desperately need in the organization and have another project forward that can fit into their top 6.

I'd do Merril and a 3rd for yak in a heart beat. I'd probably even do our 2017 2nd plus merril. Adding palmieri and then yak for pennies on the dollar two years in a row is a great step to improving the offense. Plus grab jost at 11. Keep it going slow and steady. We'll be looking tough in 2018

I can't wait for tonight! I'm doing push ups, crunches, dips, running 12 miles on my treadmill and watching rocky 2 before the draft. I'm so excited!

And bettman comes on the mic and announce the new jersey devils have forfeited their 11th lick in this year's draft due to breaking the spirit of the CBA by trading for savard who won't suit up
