I wouldn't even trade Bonino for AA and Kruger. There's just no point in trading malkin from a Penguins perspective unless the other team is offering the moon. Pens don't have any cap issues and fleury will be gone sooner or later opening up more cap space. They also have almost the same exact team coming back, so why mess with that?

Only way I see JR actually listening would be if the Hawks put Hammer, AA, and schmaltz as part of the deal. Not to mention probably a 1st rounder for a couple years.

- drummer829

For a great player who has problems staying healthy? That's a crazy request. I know we all tend to over value our guys, but that's more than the moon in return for an injury-plagued superstar.

I've been dabbling in Glenlivet 12 and Dewars 12 as well. My amateur opinion it's Glenlivet by a mile.

I think the Kruger deal you have to look at like a 5 year deal. They convinced him to take below market deals for 2 years with the promise they would eventually make him whole. His current contract compensated him for the "wink/wink" deals the 2 previous years. If you combine his contract the last two years and his contract the next three years he averages $2,380,000 per year. That is probably about the going rate for a #3c. Notice that in the 3rd year of his new contract his actual salary is $2,300,000.

In my opinion even $2,380,000 is slightly overpaying. But I think this sends a message the team and to free agents that the Blackhawks treat their players fairly.

I think trading some of the young players stuck in Rockford is also a sign that they try to do the right thing by the players.

Now it is a business and they are not benevolent to a fault or to the detriment of the team. No way.

Sure, for a 3C it might be market value. But Kruger produces like a 4C and the Hawks have the most expensive core in the NHL by a country mile. As such, it is a contract that StanBo+Co cannot afford, and I am not surprised that he is trying to move it. You can disagree, but the stats don't lie.

Steve, the problem is the currency (you know that). The only way around that is when the next CBA is negotiated, you have a cap that's set no matter what the FX rate does, which will never happen. The owners won't agree to it because if the CAD crashes, the Canadian team owners stand to lose millions. If it goes the other way, the NHLPA leaves money on the table. There really is no ideal situation, but that's because the NHL has teams transacting in multiple currencies, which is unique to their sport. Even European soccer transacts in Euro, not local currency.
- DMCsPulledHammy

All well said but the American side to it is just run poorly.

they have enough American players to advertise as well as Canadians. Yet they don't and the sport doesn't reel in the casual fan like it used to. The growth of the sport on the kid level is still there, but I just feel that there has been some major mishaps from the NHL.

They need to check their ego at the door. ESPN TV deal, even if on ESPn2 and occasional channel 7 or ESPN national game would be ideal. Sportscenter nad constant 24/7 talk of hockey would lure in fans. Which is what they need. More fans, more demand, more money. Instead they feel the need to sit on some mighty throne and have a crap deal with nbc sports.

So what if they take a back seat to nba, mlb, and even college basketball? They already do.....funny how once espn got world cup of hockey they started talking more hockey on sportscenter, main webs page, etc.

On the contrary. I totally agree. I do not think Kruger is even a $2 mil guy much less a $3 mil guy. I would move him in a heartbeat for a fair return at a cap savings.

One thing to consider....in the right situation his offensive numbers could improve. for example.... Joakim Nordstrom had 10 goals and 14 assists for Carolina in 71 games.

I'd be stumped as to why they would trade Hossa with the recapture stuff, unless they know something we don't

Hasn't this horse been flogged to death already, trading Hossa would be shooting yourself in the foot at this point. Gotta hang onto him and hope he can maintain his level of play for a few more seasons

I stand by my hypothesis that the excruciatingly painful to hear/watch "Rap" that Versteeg and Nordstrom did was the primary reason they were shipped out of town.

i certainly don't understand the recapture penalties if Hoss retires early - and if they would even transfer. but one thing i do not believe in that is that hawks are taking offers for Hjammer... please no.

This isn't the best of rumor sites. In addition to Hossa they mention Hjalmarsson as well.

So far the rumor mill has the Hawks discussing trades on:

- Kruger
- Shaw
- Kane
- Crawford
- Anisimov
- Seabrook
- Hossa
- Hjalmarsson
- Bickell (was traded)
- Teravainen (was traded)

At what point do we just say that Stan is shopping everyone?
